Hey, any Sailor Moon fans here? A new anime has been worked on for quite some time, it will finally start in July, Toei recently released the title and the first artwork, so here's the first look at the new version of Sailor Moon, Sailor Moon Crystal. I'm happy with the character design, much closer to the manga this time, especially with the details of the costume like her brooch and choker. They'll obviously do the Dark Kingdom arc first but there's no dounbt that they'll do the other arcs if the show is successful enough, I hope they can do the "Dream" arc, it's very good in the manga but the anime adaptation for "Sailor Moon SuperS" suffered from too much focus on Chibiusa and the removal of the outer senshi. Generally I hope that the new anime sticks closer to the manga's plot but keeps the better characterization from the first anime, almost every villain was disposable in the manga, the anime gave them personalities and made them memorable.
I know nothing about this but my boss is a fan, when you say it's coming out in July, where? On US DVD?
You know nothing about Sailor Moon Crystal or do you mean the entire Sailor Moon franchise? Technically it's only the japanese release in july but Toei will stream it worldwide subtitled in various languages, the language list hasn't been confirmed yet but I'd be very surprised if english isn't part of the package.
I'm also very excited. And there's going to be an English dub?! I hope they do similar to what's being done with Space Dandy!
There are no confirmed dubs at all at the moment, it's subtitled only and it seems Toei has no foreign partners, they're doing it all on their own similar to what they did with the Dragonball Z special a few years ago, the translation etc. was all done by Toei. The series will be streamed on Niconico, a japanese site, so don't expect to see it on crunchyroll etc., at least not right away, they may do it later. There still aren't many details about how it's all going to work. @Agent Richard07: You could check out english subs of the original anime, the japanese version is miles better than the english dub, especially in the beginning when DIC massacred the show with countless cuts and edits.
Subs are not my friend. I've tried. It's a combination of lack of time and an abundance of headaches. I really hope Toei will let someone do an English dub. I think they could air it on Toonami.
I'm sure there will be dubs at some point, I guess the reason Toei's doing it this way at the start is to cut down on piracy and to make more money themselves. You could just watch the show raw in japanese, as much as I like Sailor Moon, the story's not that complicated, especially if you've read the manga or watched the old anime. BTW, if you haven't read the manga, I recommend it. It has its flaws but I like it very much.
Space Dandy is a trip. I can go either way with the dub, I don't mind dubs if done well but I don't have a problem reading subtitles. I've actually gotten used to watching even English programming with them as I find it helps sometimes. Of course, Sailor Moon had some annoying voices in both dub and sub. I think we all liked it despite the voices.
Can't wait to see Queen Beryl. In the early 90's anime adaption, I honest to God thought she was a parody of the Japanese Total Quality Management system...and her social critiques of Japanese society were so sharp. LOVED her.
Huzzah! I've only watched the first season of Sailor Moon and a little bit of R (stupid alien filler arc) before I stopped watching. It'll be great to see the (hopefully) full story retold.
That means you missed the best season of Sailor Moon, Sailor Moon S and the best soldier, Sailor Pluto! But I didn't think the doom tree arc was bad, it had awesome power ups for the inner senshi and it was nice that a story was wrapped up in 13 episodes. Here's the official western logo: The entire announcement in english, not much news except for a few names and the synopsis of the story, but it confirms a worldwide stream on Niconico Douga.
