I came across an old model of the Carolina I had lying around a week or so ago, and thought that it would be cool to mod it a bit to let it fit with the style that's used in the upcoming movie. Reviewing the model again, I came to the conclusion that it was utter crap, and have started from scratch again. Here's an early WIP image; I am aware of some of the errors in the mesh. So... What do you guys think about it?

The model looks skillfully made so far, but I don't like the "J.J. style".

I kinda miss the old one.

That said, it reminds me slightly of the NX-1000 'Bonaventure' from last year's Trek calendar. I like it.

Actually I don't like the JJ style either. At least not in it's whole cloth form. This on the other hand I like better than before. Go figure?

Praetor, it is the Bonaventure, although I have a fan made techsheet that said Carolina. It's just an updated version :)

I've heard it before that this version is preferred over the original. I hope I can live up to your expectations :D

I like the updates you've done so far. But I think the seams in the tubular part of the hull should be a lot smaller.

Looks great. Just make sure it has curved pylons. :)

I'm glad you caught my tongue in cheekness. I imagine you will sway me, actually. :p

I'm not all that familiar with the class, but it looks like it has potential. Where will the bridge and warp engines be placed?

The bridge will be on top of that tubular hull, on the same spot as where it would have been on a normal saucer. The engines will be on pylons jutting out from the back of the ship, where that strip ends; the impulse engines will be at the end of the strip as well :) If you have trouble following me, do a quick google search for NCC-1000 :)

It's so simple it actually works! I like the JJ touches as well with the deflector dish. Looking forward to future updates.

That was me. When I drew the Carolina schematic, I finished it before Meni released his Bonaventure orthos. So, out of respect to him, I renamed mine to something else, and imagined it as a Frigate (something we'd not seen in TOS Trek). So, there are differences between mine and his. I'm honored that you chose to flesh mine out in 3D!

I'm planning on modelling my nacelles like this. Any CC some of you guys have? Someone already said to make the cowl shorter, but that's actually something about the design I love the most so that one's a keeper ;) I'm still figuring out whether having the pylons sweep a bit forward or backward is better...

    Hey, those are great nacelles!

The only thing I would do differently is the mounting bar that goes across the front of the cap; I would make it vertical, like on Enterprise. With the cowling overhead, it seems like the dome wants to fall out. :)

Yeah that's a good possibility, or perhaps a tri-folded design...

Idk, I kinda like the horizontal bussard bar, it suits the thin profile of the Carolina.
