And Dennis Farina was a significant part of what made all of those work so well for the two short years that the show was on the air. A series - and a lead actor - who both went before their time.
We lost a good one today. Lots of others lately but this one is like a punch to the gut for me. I've been rewatching Crime Story lately and Mike Torello was my favorite character of his. Rest in peace Mr. Farina.
Such sad news RIP Mr. Farina... He was a great actor in both comedy and drama; very distinctive voice, and from I've heard, an all around great guy. I loved him in Midnight Run and Big Trouble (a very funny movie based on a book by Dave Barry about idiots with a bomb that ended up on an airplane. Sadly it was scheduled to open right after 911, so it ended up being a straight to video release).

The same people who made Miami Vice produced Crime Story and there were stylistic similarities between the two, but the Farina series was a whole lot better, more atmospheric and more interestingly written.

I couldn't stand him on Law and Order, don't know if it was his acting or the writing, but he will be missed.
He was a great actor. I loved watching him in Law and Order. He will be missed. My prayers go out to the family.
Was recently enjoying him on Luck. I wish they'd been able to continue that show; heck, I'd have happily accepted highly stylized, hand-drawn animation race segments if that would've kept it going without endangering more horses...
