Does anyone remember Big Matty? He wasn't here long, yet he still lives on in my heart. http://web.archive.org/web/20020429033644/http://www.trekbbs.com/ubb/Forum13/HTML/004471.html
You know, some of us have been here long enough that we'll soon get new members who weren't even born when we first registered ourselves.
That's good isn't it? That means Star Trek is still viable, or if you prefer not looking at this site as a Trek site, it means message boards like this one are doing a good job surviving the Facebook generation.
Hi not-at-all-evil Robert! Long time no see! If you have a prob with the German Dativ and need the help of a native speaker who is actually proficient in all matters grammatical (it's really sad that one has to stress that today - in my time it was a matter of course that people had a grasp of their mother tongue), please don't hesitate to contact me. September 2001 IIRC and I just turned a Commie (this is my 2nd round through the ranks, though). Be sure to post in the Flaptains' Lounge! It's a great place and there are awfully nice posters there atm. *waves to ex-fellow-Flaptains* Correct. There was the big troll hunt in which approximately 0.2% of missmanners' duals got deleted, then there was the 2002 database crash and either before or after that - I am not 100% sure - there was a period when inactive accounts got deleted after a certain time. I happen to remember that because I had left during the troll hunt and re-registered when Kelly died. I made only one post to express my commiserations and then didn't use the account anymore. A few months later I received a notification mail that my account would get pruned if unused any longer. Much to my chagrin I forgot which year that was. When did Kelly die? 2002 or 2003? And congrats, Shatna! The green suits you
But aren't you Barvarian? Can you speak hochdeutsche? I swear my biggest problem was starting lessons thinking I'd have a few Germam speaking friends to practice on - only to realise afterwards they are all Schweizerdeutsch!!! When I get a bit more confident in my speaking, I'd definitely like to practice with you
LOL!! I can do a bit Swiss German, too - I lived at Lake Constance for 2 years. Don't worry, I am actually one of the approx. 0.001% of Bavarians who can speak a completely accent-free Hochdeutsch (though only if necessary). With my parents both being teachers plus coming from very different regions (with vastly different dialects), I was raised in High German and basically learned several Bavarian dialects as my first foreign languages. You can ask Santy about my High German - we're RL friends and his German is really excellent (as is Space Ball's and their dad's!)
I do still occasionally show up to bump threads and/or irritate people. It's been a while. But hello to anyone who remembers me.
