Every time I see it all I see is the terrible job some intern has done with the logo: I can't un-see it! gaaaaaaah!
The delta isn't the right shape. That's what lewisniven is getting at here. They've warped the sides of it outwards to fit the "50" into the shape. I agree that once you actually notice it's the wrong shape, it's incredibly hard to un-notice it.
It might be a symmetry thing. Either way, its ok to my eyes. I should ask my wife though who focuses more on symmetry. If it bothers her then, I'll know.
My only thing is that the "50" looks like it's hidden and trying to get through, which doesn't exactly scream "celebration" in any form. But probably more importantly, the sense that I get from this thread is that no one is wow'd by it either, which in itself is a problem since it's supposed to be an important year. "Meh" and "Looks ok" aren't ringing endorsements. Nothing wrong with the logo per se, but not a lot of excitement for it, either. So to me, being bland is more of an offense.
It's not like there's any consistency in the delta shape anyway. Each time it's shown (TOS, TNG commbadges, TNG movie logos, alt-Trek) it's a different shape. So, meh.
It would have helped slightly if the OP has said what s/he was getting at instead of the Where's-Waldo approach. This is probably the best artistic evaluation so far. Now with the problem(s) established, this thread needs graphical suggestions for a better design.
The artist distorted the left edge of the Starfleet arrowhead out a bit (literally, just like half a millimeter) in the middle in order to better accommodate the 5 in fifty.
Why couldn't they just shrink the goddamn font to accommodate the legibility of the text? No need for moving lines around. Nice work with the Picard meme, Locutus Of Bored, full disclosure: I Lol'd.
Stick that logo on all the merchandise I already own and market it as limited edition so I can buy it all again already!
Fender changed a curve of the Telecaster guitar's body slightly back in the '70s because of new router machines. After I became aware of it, I can spot it from 50 feet and it's all I can see. It's not symmetry. It's the curve of the line. Usually that curve on the badge is more or less a constant radius: This logo, not so constant, to say the least: If you don't notice it, you don't. To me, while it's not the outrage of the century, it looks like crap. But it's not the first time I've seen an ugly curve on that side, and IIRC it was on something official but I can't find it right now.
