Deadline is reporting that MGM and Fox will be packaging up the series for a massive Blu-Ray release this fall. Cost looks to be $240.00, available for pre-order now. Including 130 hours of bonus features and nine of the 22 films will be in HD. Link What do you think? Will you be getting this? Myself, I just got Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace on Blu-Ray last weekend thanks to a deal at my B&N, so its pretty much a no-brainer for me. What about you?
I already have the whole series to date on DVD. I'm really not willing to drop over $200 for the blu-rays, too.
I have the box set DVDs from a few years ago also... but it'd be worth it to swap them out. Especially if nearly half of them are HD quality.
"Nine of the 22 films will be in HD" - meaning what, exactly? This is film, after all. On Blu-Ray. They should ALL be in HD. Or were these "nine" referring to Bond films that have not yet been released on BR?
Wait, what? Why would only nine be in "high-definition?" On the Thunderball Blu-ray Disc, it was said that all the Bond films had been scanned at 4K (previously, Dr. No through Live and Let Die had been scanned at 4K, and everything else had been scanned at 2K) by now. This sounds like a far more likely explanation, and the Deadline writer wrote a really horribly awkward sentence.

Seems clear that every film in this set will indeed be in HD. Just a bit awkwardly written article. (After all, there's no reason to think that the existing Bond Blu-rays, which are HD, would NOT be HD for a new BR set.) To restate, the sentence can be read as "This will be the first time that ... nine of the films will be available in HD." That's the intent I get from the article, anyway. Excellent news, BTW. Hopefully the 'nine' will be available separately, but if not, hey, we take what we can get!
Reading the comments section on the article page at Deadline, it looks to be that the "nine films will be available in HD" is indeed referring to the nine remaining Bond films that are not currently available on Blu-Ray.
I think I might actually have reason to buy a bluray player. Ironically, my laptop has one, but the screen resolution is only 1366x768 and hooking it up to a tv seems too Micky-mouse. But that looks like a must have.
^ Some may not like it if there's not a space in that big boxed set for Skyfall's eventual Blu-Ray release. Who knows, there may well be. I don't particularly care, though. Assuming that, contained within the giant box, there's just a bunch of standard BR cases, I'll be removing all of them anyway and putting them in a standard DVD rack (I hate complicated packaging). If, however, the individual films can't be separated in that way - which would be foolish, IMHO - then that's OK too, since in any case there's nothing we can do about it due to the fact that Bond films will *continue* to be released and the 50th anniversary set won't be complete forever. And in the end, who cares? Skyfall won't make it to Blu-Ray until the end of 2013/beginning of 2014 anyway. That's over a year after the release of this big set.
Considering the majority of my Bond films are on laserdisc this would seem like a good time to upgrade.
I would rather have them be available individually or in smaller sets so you can pick and choose the ones you want, but I am glad they will all finally be available. I have expressly not gotten any of the others sets because they were packaged a pain, and really, there is always another set! Might wait until the price comes down a bit though. Reasonable, I suppose, but still kind of highish.
I said it was a shame the boxset would be almost immediatly dated. Skyfall release date: 26-10-12 Box set release date: 01-10-12 So in less than a month it would no longer be a complete set. Though to be fair the box set is reasonable priced at £99.99 Which is less than a £5/movie.
