Gillian Anderson. I know, I know...she's already done an iconic character. But man, she would make a kick-ass Captain.

Read the entire thread and unfortunately I don't have a clue who half the suggestions are (Im English so don't get to watch too much US TV).

I do however know a few British actors who I believe would make a decent captain in any new Star Trek series. If you are American I doubt you will have heard of many, most have evil (posh) accents.

My suggestions are as follows with accent in brackets: Laurence Fox (posh), James McAvoy (Scottish, posh, northern), Paul Bettany (posh), Damian Lewis (any), Catherine Bell (not sure)

Also, I think US actress Jennifer Carpenter would make a good captain.

If we are going for comedy captain then Brian Blessed every time, failing that Hugh Laurie using his 'Prince George' accent from Blackadder III.

I came here to say this. But James Earl Jones should really be an admiral.

EDIT: ACK! I can't believe I actually replied to myself (Kitsune was me before that account was closed). I'm so embarrassed :brickwall:

^ That's funny though. Funnier still, you're probably the only one who would have realised it! You would've got away for it if it wasn't for your pesky self!

I also reckon Peter Mensah would make a good captain.

Somebody new. Somebody who can play the part of the captain as written and make it his or HER own.

Agreed. It's too bad they didn't go with the Star Trek: Sulu series years ago.

My vote for captain is Russell Wong.

If you go for non-White/non-male, CCH Pounder is one of the obvious choices IMO. She played a lot of different authority figures throught her career.

I would like the person who is right for the role to play the Captain.

Has Victor Garber been nominated yet? He'd be awesome.

I could imagine that easily, and I think she'd do a great job.

Not sure how good she'd look in a Starfleet uniform though

Shes also pushing 60 which puts her outside the likely age range for the part. Maybe an Admiral on the show. Every captain cast so far as the lead in the previous series has been 30's-40's and thats likely to continue. If they did diverge from that trend, it would almost certainly be in the other direction: late 20's, not late 50's-early 60's.

When cast, Patrick Stewart was 47 but looked much older and was playing an older character. Avery Brooks was 45 but his character was only a commander at that stage. Scott Bakula was 47. Kate Mulgrew was 40. Only Shatner was in his 30s.

But then again, looking at the ages of the cast in nuTrek, you're probably right, they'll cast younger next time out. Which probably won't happen for a long time anyway, by which time CCH will probably be pushing 70!
