Doug Drexler released this tribure video to Matt Jefferies. Worth checking out: http://vimeo.com/101613095
That was excellent. Jefferies remains one of my favorites. And I loved Neil Degrass Tyson's comments at the beginning. So true. --Alex
He, more than Roddenberry, made Star Trek--at least to me. Had everything else been the same, and the Enterprise just some finned rocket--this very website would likely not exist. Matt brought elegance to the universe that no equation will ever match
In fairness to Roddenberry he pointed MJ in the right direction. GR laid out the basic guidelines which helped MJ get started. GR made a point of wanting to distance themselves from anything that had been done before or anything remotely likely in the near future. While it's true MJ did eventually use a saucer shape the end result is greater than that one familiar element. Despite the prominant saucer I've never heard of anyone saying MJ's design being just a variation of a flying saucer.
