That brings up a good question--should I include songs that were featured in the movie, but not in the main titles? From "Underneath the Mango Tree" and "We Have All the Time in the World" to the closing credits songs that have adorned most of the movies since the late '80s? (The Pretenders did two extra songs for TLD, and I personally prefer "Where Has Everybody Gone?" to the a-ha title track.)

"It's all right...it's quite all right, really. She's having a rest. We'll be going on soon. There's no hurry, you see...we have all the time in the world...." :(

I'm kind of torn here...I've always considered Goldfinger to be a bit overrated...I can see where it was big in its day, but I don't see where it stands the test of time to still be considered the best of the best in this series...and intellectually, I want to like FRWL better...but I just don't feel that connection with it, and if I had to throw one of these movies in right now, I'd probably pick Goldfinger for pure watchability...but since I don't feel too strongly one way or another, and I already hurt FRWL once, and it is a movie that deserves some props...I guess it's Goldfinger's turn....

And might I suggest that instead of songs you go with the novels. Just the Flemings probably, but you could include the Gardners and Bensons as well if you wanted.

^I'm not even sure I'd be qualified to vote, it's been so long since I read some of those. I'm game if there's enough interest, but for now I think I'll do the songs. (And I decided to just do one main song from each movie. I started to compile a broader list, and quickly discovered that there were just too many source songs in the films, variations of the title song in the closing credits, etc., to bother with.)

Anyroad, as a formality, here are the final results for this one...

    Gold: From Russia With Love
Silver: Goldfinger (Now that just doesn't seem right, does it?)
Bronze: On Her Majesty's Secret Service

    4th: Casino Royale (2006)
    5th: The Living Daylights
    6th: GoldenEye
    007th: Dr. No
    8th: You Only Live Twice
9th: The Spy Who Loved Me
    10th: Tomorrow Never Dies
    11th: Licence to Kill
    12th: Thunderball
    13th: For Your Eyes Only
    14th: Live and Let Die
15th: The Man With the Golden Gun
16th: The World is Not Enough
    17th: Octopussy
    18th: Die Another Day
    19th: Diamonds Are Forever
    20th: A View to a Kill
    21st: Moonraker

So...a pretty fun and interesting contest overall, with some surprising results. I think Moore got beat up a little too harshly, but every Bond actor got a film in the top 10, so that's cool.

Thanks for playing, everyone! I'll be posting the next game shortly.

Yeah, it was ahead by so much. But I'm very happy with how this list turned out for the most part. I love how Dr. No is ranked 007th :D

Indeed, I'd like to see the 007th tradition continued in the new thread (whatever ends up there).

Not so bad. The last two standing were my two favorites, although I rate Goldfinger higher than From Russia. Casino Royale went a little earlier for my taste, but stood with the last batch, so fair play there.

    Interesting game.

Ditto. I appreciate you all keeping it going. I did it just as a joke, but it was cool to see it turn into something more. :techman:

And while I didn't enjoy eliminating it, there's something rather appropriate about the first Bond film being ranked 007th. :D
