If you believe TPTB, the story for ID was conceived before the decision was made to make him Khan, so to say the movie was an intentional remake is doing it somewhat of a disservice.

Anyway, in terms of scope I'd say NEM tried harder than INS.

As far as I know, Lindelof is responsible for all Khan and TWOK related rip offs in this film. It's not that the whole film is a remake. It's just that the second half is a conglomerate of rip offs and unoriginality.

Eh. I thought the rip offs and unoriginality were reasonably well-executed. (shrug)

Certainly better than when NEM took its turn at doing the same thing.

I was referring to trying to make it a movie with an epic scope, not trying to make it a good movie, of course they all tried to make good movies.

INS was the only movie deliberately written to have a small scope, so as not to try to "outdo" a previous movie that was an epic action movie. They were aiming low from the beginning.

NEM and STID are both clearly movies that are meant to be grand and epic.
