TSQ, I'm glad you're feeling better! Being in hospital on Boxing day of all days really must suck! Rincewiend, you take a lot after your dad. A very handsome family Ancient mariner thanks I'm usually not fond of faces in crazy places either but this one is one of the cases where nature plays a practical joke. I discovered it on a business trip and almost drove into the ditch LOL. The tree is in a dangerous curve. I parked the car in a safe spot, walked back and took the pic. The smilie is still there, after 2 years, but it has grown darker so that it's not so obvious anymore. Saturn0660, that's an awesome sunrise! Are they often that colourful in your region? macloudt, that's a beautiful building but it seems strangely out of proportion for a gothic church, compared to those we have this side of the Channel. Do you happen to know if it was planned like this? Ours all look like this one: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...om_160910.jpg/458px-Regensburg_Dom_160910.jpg
Ya, this time a year as long as the sky is clear you can get pretty good shots. Same with sunsets.(however better in summer) I live in NE Ohio somewhat near akron/canton.
Holy shit. I didn't realize how big it was! I think that's more meat than I eat in a whole year, all on one plate! I started getting sick on Christmas, but I refused to go to the hospital!
Off the top of my head, I'm sure it was planned. Square turrets are common on medieval (and earlier) English churches. Certainly the interior of the cathedral is beautifully proportioned, at least to my amateur eye. In fact, to my eye the churched you linked looks too tall and skinny.
LOL different fashions apparently Over here, all gothic churches (built between 1300 and 1500 approximately; the French have earlier ones as they invented that style) have these long filigrane towers. And even the romanesque ones (built between 800 and 1300) have towers about 1.5-1.7 times the height of the main nave. Westminster Abbey looks a bit like a crossbreed between yours and ours. Propably French influence. Ours are more ornate on the outside, but much less so on the inside. There the British ones beat us . Here a German example: http://www.regensburg.de/sixcms/media.php/23/thumbnails/BC-070824-096.jpg.395649.jpg Wikipedia has a few interesting photos of Gothic churches all over Europe. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gothic_architecture The differences in style and proportion are amazing.
Macloudt, gorgeous cathedral. Looking forward to seeing the kitty door! TSQ, nice Christmas pics. I'm glad you're feeling better. Saturn, I meant are you related to (the real) Santa, but it obviously didn't work. Beautiful! Both the photography and the cat.
Those are oddly alluring. I've eaten a couple when super hungry and cold though it's pretty much the opposite of my tastes.
