As you may know by now, fan favorite Star Trek, sci-fi, fantasy, comic book and TV writer Peter David ("PAD") suffered a stroke over the holidays. Half of his body was impacted including his eye sight and mobility. He is improving and walked yesterday! I have written up a column talking about a debt I feel I owe PAD, my literary journey with him, and also share information from his wife Kathleen about how we can help PAD rehab in peace today. The piece includes a lot about my love of ST prose and PAD's contribution in patricular. Here is the piece. Let me know what you think. Happy New Year.
Re: A Debt I Owe Trek Writer Peter David & How To Help Him Rehab In Pe It's a good article, and I hope it helps spread the word. Still can't find the print on demand copies of Pulling Up Stakes, so I'm looking forward to donating more directly via paypal or whatever they end up putting on.
Re: A Debt I Owe Trek Writer Peter David & How To Help Him Rehab In Pe Thanks for sharing that. It was a nice story.
Re: A Debt I Owe Trek Writer Peter David & How To Help Him Rehab In Pe Thank you for the kind words. I'm looking forward to reading The Camelot Papers! Man, I miss NF.
Re: A Debt I Owe Trek Writer Peter David & How To Help Him Rehab In Pe Thanks for the kind words. How did you first get into ST prose?
Re: A Debt I Owe Trek Writer Peter David & How To Help Him Rehab In Pe I just ordered a copy of THE CAMELOT FILES.
Re: A Debt I Owe Trek Writer Peter David & How To Help Him Rehab In Pe Cool. That one looks really interesting.
Re: A Debt I Owe Trek Writer Peter David & How To Help Him Rehab In Pe I assume you mean The Camelot Papers. Good Choice. As I said in the other PAD thread it was the best novel I read last year. I've purchased the second part of Pulling up Stakes a couple of days ago. I have most of his more recent books already, but will look into buying some of his older stuff I haven't read yet.
Re: A Debt I Owe Trek Writer Peter David & How To Help Him Rehab In Pe The very first Trek books I read were PAD's Worf SA books, and then my first adult Trek books were the NF books. I then stumbled across the DS9R, which brought me into the wider novelverse. Now I read pretty much all TrekLit. So I'm another reader brought into TrekLit by PAD.
Re: A Debt I Owe Trek Writer Peter David & How To Help Him Rehab In Pe Way back in the day, in the wake of a scary, riveting TNG two-parter episode called The Best of Both Worlds, Vendetta was released. Normally, in that time, I would have been daunted by a 400+ page book, but this was the Borg! Their epic return. And I realized as I flew through the book that Peter David was an amazing author. The TV episode that came out a year or so later-- I, Borg--had to compete with the way Vendetta took things to the next level. It would have been interesting to see what PD would have done with the opportunity to novelize ST: First Contact. Especially since that was the point where J.M. Dillard's novelizations began to shrink to anemic levels (and I had loved her work for TFF and TUC).
