It's a lost art with digital downloads, but if you were to take (at max 2) 15 tracks on a CD/Mixtape with you to your grave, what songs would you take with you? You can click on the song if you are not familiar with it or if you want to take a listen for any other reason. Hook - Blues Traveler 5.Tattoos on this Town - Jason Aldean 6.Home - Dierks Bentley 7.Bless the Broken Road - Rascal Flatts 8.Already Gone - Sugarland 9.Vincent - Don McLean 10.Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow - Amy Winehouse (Bridget Jones' version) 11.Invisible City - Wallflowers 12.Basket Case - Green Day 13.Duel of the Fates - "Star Wars Episode I: The Phanton Menace" Sountrack 14.Angel - Sarah McLachlan 15.The Dance - Garth Brooks I will do my other mixtape later. This is the quintessential mix tape from my teen years. Yes, I was teen in the 80's when we all thought the world would end with Reagan pushing a button so there's a certain undercurrent of despair and lack of care for a tomorrow that won't come to the music. I can't take credit for this mix. A female friend made it and gave copies to everybody in my circle of friends. Originally created on a 90 minute tape, she "remastered" it onto CD for everyone when collecting mp3s became big in the late 90's. I think it has a bit of a "dark" John Hughes movie vibe to it. Wall of Voodoo - Mexican Radio The Alarm - The Stand Lords of the New Church - Open Your Eyes Oingo Boingo - Not My Slave Buzzcocks - Ever Fallen in Love Love and Rockets - No New Tale to Tell Smithereens - Blood and Roses Planet P - Why Me PIL - Order of Death Boomtown Rats - I Don't Like Mondays The Cure - Let's Go to Bed Concrete Blonde - Still in Hollywood Duran Duran - Planet Earth Shriekback - Nemesis The Vapors - Turning Japanese The Church - Under the Milky Way And yep, I still pop it in every few months for a listen.
Since I'm taking this super-CD to my grave, it's all over the place! But it's a "mix tape" blend, partly chosen from greatest hits of past mix tapes. It's intended to loop forever, in my grave, I guess. Planet Claire - The B-52's Running Up That Hill - Kate Bush The Crossing - Grace Jones You Are Always on My Mind - Pet Shop Boys Under the Milky Way - The Church Love, Reign o'er Me - The Who Echoes - Pink Floyd In the Cloud Forest - Andy Summers & Robert Fripp Sinfonia to Cantata No. 29 - Wendy Carlos (1968) In Paradisum - Gabriel Fauré Siegfried's Death and Funeral March - Richard Wagner The Battle of Yavin - John Williams Fool in the Rain - Led Zeppelin Monkey Man - The Rolling Stones Downtown Train - Tom Waits The Fauré Requiem piece is passable, although I prefer it with pipe organ only. I'd much prefer another recording of the Wagner. "Echoes" is on Meddle. P.S. That was a little bit of work, but I enjoyed picking those out.
