    Thatcher has died, I would refrain from making comments about dancing shoes, street parties and the like as that is uncalled for.

    Dance if you want to, just be aware that it looks kind of tacky when one does so at times like this.

    My view for what it's worth.

    It would be false of me to suggest I agreed with half the things she believed in, but she should be respected if nothing else, a politician of genuine conviction who changed the way Britain saw itself, and the way the rest of the world saw Britain. A Prime Minister not afraid to be America’s ally but who never expected us to be America’s lapdog, who stood up to the unions when they needed standing up to, a Prime Minister who laid much of the ground work for why Britain is still a great place to live today, and yes some of the groundwork for why it isn’t too.

    The right Prime Minister at the right time. And let’s not forget, a woman who made it to the top of her profession without the need for positive discrimination, a wealthy background or the need to be a Westminster insider, a politician from another era who herself said;

    “It used to be about trying to do something. Now it's about trying to be someone.”

    For better or worse not a Prime Minister history will forget in a hurry.

    Too late for that because of the title. Since he was first in I guess this is the official trekbbs response to the death of a person. Oh how does that make us look as a corporate body. :sigh:

    There was a remarkable movie made about her some years ago, starring Meryl Streep.

    Here's Robert Ebert's excellent review: The Iron Lady.

    I didn't agree with all of her opinions, and it was certainly inappropriate for her to inject her right-wing politics into governing. Nonetheless, she was indeed the British Prime Minister for over a decade.

    I don't really get your point. She was wrong to inject politics into governing? Isn't that the whole point? Is there a Prime Minister who hasn't injected their politics into governing?

    On topic: I'm sorry to read of Thatcher's passing. I still get a chuckle out of the parody of her at the end of For Your Eyes Only. :lol:

    RIP, Maggie.

    I don't agree with everything she did by a long shot. But she was certainly inspiring. She bequeathed us a country where anyone could make it if they had the talent, the ambition and the work ethic. She was instrumental in bringing freedom to the East and ending the Cold War and she defended democracy for the Falklanders. She will be missed. She has more integrity and conviction in her little finger than most of today's politicians.

    None of those things are actually true, of course.

    Depends on your political viewpoint I suppose. But the world's response to her passing rather makes it seem she did.
