    If ever a Marvel character cried out for a reboot . . . .

Loved the original Steve Gerber comics. Hated the movie.

All the ducktits mentions in the comments was cracking me up.

I actually know Howard from those old B&W magazines more than the comics. I think the movie's infamy makes it hard to revisit and the source material was crazy and grippy to begin with.

EDIT: oops, "trippy", though maybe grippy as well ;)

Awesome. Maybe they'll do a stop-motion Howard movie. :rommie:

I'd love to see a movie based on the Gerber stuff. Nobody could write Howard like him.

I always thought they should have gone the Roger Rabbit route: with an animated Howard trapped in a world of live-action "hairless apes."

That's a great idea. That could really capture the feel of those early Frank Brunner issues, contrasting cartoony Howard with the very realistic and detailed (if fantastic) settings.

I'm sure George Lucas is like: "Fuck you, Marvel! Don't blame me for that shit! I only agreed to produce it as a favor to Willard Huyk!"

Which is true. Willard Huyk and his wife wrote the screenplay to American Graffiti when Lucas didn't have two dimes to rub together. Lucas is fanatically loyal to people who were loyal to him, hence he allowed them to use his name to get Howard the Duck off the ground.

Of course he's been regretting it ever since...

BTW we had a secret Santa at work this last year. Howard the Duck was my secret Santa gift to my poor, unsuspecting coworker. I am writing this posting from my shallow grave in the Arizona desert.

Howard the Duck is a movie that might have actually benefited from a smaller budget. They completely missed the fact that the original comics ran on satire and substituted lots of slapstick and SFX in place of Gerber's mordant, somewhat antisocial humor . . . .

It needed to be a smart-alecky cult film, based on an inconoclastic cult comic, instead of a big would-be blockbuster. More Kevin Smith than GOONIES, if you know what I mean.

I'd love to see one, then maybe we can get a RiffTrax for it.
