She was self-medicating due to being undiagnosed as bi-polar. But anyone who has read her books or seen her TV or stage shows knows that she's not some drug-addled diva, especially since becoming clean.
I never said she hadn't been. But I wonder if her past history will influence if Disney would consider Leia in the sequels.
Not unless any present behavior gives them pause and reminds them of how she misbehaved and abused chemicals in the 80s, and she's clean, sober and upright at the moment with years of straight laced sobriety under her belt.
The extra box office draw they'd have by including Princess Leia would far outweigh the minimal real-world risk of hiring Carrie Fisher. Oh, and here's a possible director I've not heard mentioned: John Ross.
Hamill will be the easiest to get back. Fisher has stated she wished she had turned down Star Wars. Ford has become a grumpy old man whenever the topic of Star Wars comes up.
Why would they care, again? I'm sure they've hired people with more recent issues with substance abuse.
My guess is that Ford won't come back and that they'll have to write Han as having died in the years since JEDI ended, but you never know...if Disney and Lucas dangle an enormous enough paycheck in front of Harrison's face anything's possible. It's not like he's getting any good roles anymore aside from Indiana Jones, and the last one of those was four and a half years ago. He has nothing to lose really except his squeamishness about Star Wars. There are times he reminds me of Shatner during the "Get a Life" period.
I really think Ford's tough talk regarding Han Solo was in the context of an A-list actor who could call the shots. I dare say Morning Glory and Hollywood Homicide humbled him somewhat, and the proof of that is Indy 4. I do think he's the least likely to return, but I wouldn't at all be surprised is Hamill, Fisher and Ford were all back.
I'm sure she is, but it doesn't matter. I'm smart and witty too, but I won't play the villain of a major summer blockbuster movie.
Well, a co-protagonist alongside Luke, any new heroes and possibly Han if Ford agrees to return. But no, I don't see her headlining as the main hero either.
