This just in! Garret Wang states on his Facebook page: So, what would "boycotting Shatner" actually mean? Not sitting on the same stage at conventions with him? Not watching Boston Legal? Never ever buying anything from Priceline? I'm a big boycotter myself. I am constantly boycotting shops, companies, Treklit.. I like boycotting because I can then announce to folks "I am boycotting X" and then of course they have to ask "Why" and presto, I have a soapbox to rant from. It's very good if you like to rant and need to find a way to drop your rant into conversation. Which is pretty much how this gem appeared in a completely unrelated conversation on Wang's FB page. Someone mentions Denny Crane and BOOM the boycott soapbox.
Wouldn't that be "going about your daily life" for just about everyone at this point? Shatner is a has-been.
It means Garrett gets to go on talking about how poorly he felt he was treated by Shatner. Of course, very few people will actually give a damn, least of all Shatner himself, who will be too busy enjoying his life while Wang chooses to grouse and gripe. That's his right, of course, but it's not like it actually matters.
He has just released a new book, a new DVD and a new CD. Isn't he doing a Broadway show these days as well? I think he's doing pretty well for a 80-year-old has-been.
Not to mention he's doing another documentary to followup his last one on the Captains. http://www.treknews.net/2011/08/02/...convention-info-on-how-you-can-be-part-of-it/ This one is branching out to other genre shows and fanbases. Its going to be called... FanAddicts. http://ausxip.com/xena/2012/01/mr-bill-shatner-wants-to-come-to-my-room-to-check-out-my-gadgets.html http://ausxip.com/xena/2012/01/2012...e-fandoms-collide-and-then-go-boooommmmm.html I don't know who "MaryD" is... but I think she was on cloud "47" after he interviewed her at the Xena convention last January. I know I'd be! While there, he also interviewed Lucy Lawless/Renee Oconnor, the principal actors of the show, and Michael Hurst, actor and director on the show. (He's also a director/producer on the Starz production of Spartacus)
Apparently a couple of us do, including me. If we didn't have this sort of gossip, we would only have our 'favorite ep/character' threads. Obscure attention seeking actors are fun that way.
Shatner was very classy in "The Captains". He was uproariously funny and yet fairly dignified when I saw him at his convention in Boston last year.
Yes, Shatner displaying class and such is the exception to the rule. Yes, he's good at self-deprication. Is it classy or dignified? No. I like him too, but lets be honest and call it for what it is.
^^ AH... let's just agree to disagree, shall we? "The Captains" does a good job at showing both his introspection and his self deprecating manner. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0ryNg0-NmE&feature=related [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0ryNg0-NmE&feature=related[/yt]
I'm trying to wonder what Wang hopes to gain by this "comment". If he's trying to make a come back in some form, this isn't a good start.
Eh...Shatner's in his 80s, no big surprise his wang is boycotting, a little Viagra and a few TOS mini-skirted Guest Star pictures oughta fix him right up Oh...wait... <Sindatur re-reads thread title>...Nevermind
I revere Shatner but I know he has many bad qualities including being quite rude when it suits him. He's a larger than life personality and this is a good and colorful thing.
