^To be fair, most of the audience will probably need reminding. The fans are going ot see the film regardless, trailers are generally targeting the wider audience.

I'll say this much, I am curious to see how it appears on screen.

Looks like I should put up a grading thread for DoS. The world premiere was on the 6th and it releases worldwide next week.

 

You better do it soon or I'll beat you to it. I'll be seeing it on the 11th when it's released here in Brussels.

 

^Lucky you! I'll be seeing it on the 16th. I'm also avoiding reviews because I don't want more information than I already have from the book, but I'm glad to see that the general vibe is positive.

Considering the eventful part of the book that this movies covers, it's got every chance to be more entertaining than the first one.

And Emh, I'm jealous. I might have to wait until the weekend after it premieres here in the US on the 13th to go and see it.

 

The third movie will now be called The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.

I'm a little disappointed because I did like "There and Back Again" as a title, but I think this change makes sense now that the story is a trilogy and not a duology. I think the original title worked better when it was just paired up with An Unexpected Journey.

In his announcement, Jackson also mentions that the Extended Edition of The Desolation of Smaug will feature at least 25 minutes of new footage, which is great news. I imagine most of that will be in the early section of the film, because (at least to me) it felt like they blew right through Bëorn and traveling through Mirkwood as quickly as possible.

 

This is why I wanted only two movies.

I did like There And Back Again quite a bit ... but The Battle of Five Armies is growing on me. I quite like it.

What if Smaug is in the whole movie and participates in the battle?

 

I think Tolkien fans would burn Peter Jackson in effigy. And it would make a waste of all the time building up the black arrow in the second movie.

 

It's an interesting what-if bit of alternate history. Smaug could lead the Orc army!
