ETA: In a lame, but typical move for the times, Nova was canceled mid-story and the story concluded in another book-- in this case, The Fantastic Four.

 

In my defence, I was busy being born in 1976, and it looked shit.

Issue 10 of the new series, accounted to be #100 of the serieses combined.

Which can be a very good thing. Anyone remember who Mr Freeze was before the BTAS writers got a hold of him? They took a total Z-lister and put him right up there with Joker and Two Face.

 

His appearances in Adam West's Batman were outstanding!

@Guy-- I still own them, but I haven't read them in 30 years. I enjoyed them 30 years ago...

 

I don't know that I'd call Blackout "lower-rung"...and he was a part of Helmut Zemo's first attempt at building his own version of the Masters of Evil. Stern/Buscema/Palmer-era. Got as close to complete victory over the Avengers of the day as anyone ever could, and Hercules and Jarvis in particular were quite a while recovering from that experience.

 

Comics are like mountains.

You just have to know that you've been there, and leave it at that.

Guys, it's all nerd stuff. Anything outside of the big characters is "lower rung" to the not we.

 

Seems like tragic under use of a a good villain name.

 

He was running with the Hood a couple years ago when Norman Osborn was leading the Avengers.

So, he's been mischievous to a degree since then.

 

So what if he's lower-rung? Why should we care about that? As already mentioned, Mr. Freeze was a bottom-of-the-barrel character before Batman:TAS reinvented him. And hell, Coulson wasn't even in the comics, and look what happened with him.

The whole point of an adaptation is that it's not limited to being the same as the source material, that it's a fresh chance to do things in a new and different way, and that includes developing formerly untapped potential or seizing missed opportunities. Often the obscure characters in the original are the best choices to focus on in a new adaptation, because there's so little baggage and so much freedom to take the basic concept in a whole new direction.

 

I do, but I'm trying to forget. Never connected to the character. Too many better books and characters out there.

 

Yeah, to my way of thinking an obscure character in this instance can have a hell of a lot more potential than a relatively well known or established character, because you have much more leeway for a re-invention.

 

What if in the season finale Iron Man or some other Avenger shows up at the last second to save the whole team? Would you guys like an appearance(s) by actual Avengers or would you guys generally consider it a bad deus ex machina?

 

Iron Man would be a totally easy way to cheat a guest-star. Just use his CGI model. You don't even need Downey's voice. It's just a robot suit you don't have to animate muscles or expressions.

 

If they had Hawkeye on the show though, then he could get more screentime and development in the long wait before Avengers: Age of Ultron.

 

I hope not, this isn't Avengers, it's Agents of Shield. If anything, I hope Nick Fury, Black Widow, or some other Shield Agent appears.
