"Professor Roy Hinkley. He could create complex machinery out of 3 coconuts, a splint of bamboo and a length of vine, but he never could just fix the damn boat."

RIP, good sir. You shall live on forever in the reruns of my childhood.

    RIP

I've always had a theory: The Professor could have fixed the boat, but he was using the castaways as lab rats and watching and logging their reactions to the situation.

Shame, at least he had a good run. Also, It Came From Outer Space scared the crap out of me as a kid.

Another childhood icon is gone. :(

The Professor was one of my earliest heroes back in the 60s. Like Reed Richards, he was a character I could really relate to and admire. Intelligent, diversified, and always focused on using his abilities to help others-- exactly what I wanted to grow up to be. He was not ambitious or vain, but he was the reason the castaways survived-- the Skipper was in charge, but he never did anything without checking with the Professor first. And in real life, Russell Johnson was a really nice guy, grateful to his fans, and always ready to use his fame for a good cause.

RIP, Professor. You were loved and you made a difference. :(
