Just started watching it. Looks funny so far. Empire was a bit hit and miss so hopefully this one is better. At least the disclaimer said so! Loved the snow shovel joke.
I'll be picking this up tomorrow and watching it then. Going to rewatch Something, Something, Something Dark Side tonight.
I think I finally get it. Robot Chicken and Family Guy are in a contest to see who can do the least funny Star Wars parody. Just watched the new one, just didn't work for me on any level and I didn't laugh once. I thought the 1st FG one had a few laughs, since then it's been all downhill for me.
They weren't kidding during the opening crawl when they said they took this episode off. By and large it was a fucking awful. A real disappointment. The laughs were very few and far between. What was good... -The Seth Green jokes -Emperor Carter was hilarious. Easily the best thing in the episode.
What's strange is that I've found recent FG episodes (with the exception of the season premiere) to be pretty damn funny, yet this was just awful. All the gags were dragged out way too long. The Seth Green jokes were good. The rest was pretty much crap.
Oh yeah, the endless running jokes. That was bad too. Yeah, after a few seasons, I've been enjoying the show again. It's a Trap! represented everything wrong with the show the past few seasons.
I thought It's a Trap was pretty decent with some genuinely funny moments but quite a few groaners as well. The presence of American Dad and Cleveland Show characters seemed a bit unnecessary, since there are still Family Guy characters that haven't been used, Seamus the wooden-limbed sailor for one. However, I can't really think of anyone other than Tim the Bear who could be Ewoks, so I'll let that one pass. There seemed to be more of the standard Family Guy cutaway gags in this one than there were in the New Hope and Empire parodies. I was satisfied anyway. Family Guy doesn't satisfy me too much these days.
Disturbing but funny joke is Peter telling the Imperials at the bunker to dig their own graves. I didn't mind the use of American Dad and Cleveland Show characters. I liked Rilo as Mort's co-pilot. FG and Robot Chicken used the same joke for Palpatine's death.
Meh, it was okay. The Enterprise cutaway joke wasn't even all that funny. I still maintain the best joke of the whole trilogy is the use of the Doctor Who opening titles during the first hyperspace jump.
I'd say it was as good/bad as the rest. I still don't understand why they put so much more effort into making a straightforward adaptation than in making jokes. Focusing on story over cut-away gags is completely against everything Family Guy stands for! I forgot the jokes but a couple places make me cackle. The only part I remember being particularly terrible was the endless exchanged glances over the Sarlacc Pit. Christ guys give it a break... Oh, and severe negative marks for not having a ten minute Peter / Giant Chicken fight over the Sarlacc Pit I liked the fact that Cleveland and AmDad characters were used. They should've done more of that. I was disappointed Adrianna wasn't one of the Ewoks.
If Conway Twitty wasn't already dead, I'd kill him myself. ENOUGH WITH CONWAY FUCKING TWITTY ALREADY!!!
Although I don't actually care for Peter's fights with the Giant Chicken, I am disappointed they never bothered to have one in either this or the Empire parody. What the hell was the point of making the Giant Chicken Boba Fett if they weren't going to do the obvious joke?
I like Family Guy, but I remain convinced that they don't do these Star Wars parodies so much because they think they're funny as that they just want to make Star Wars cartoons.* Certainly they seem to put more creative effort into the CG animated sequences than anything else. *Also, of course, they're a license to print money.
