We see lots of human characters drink it (hell, I think we see more humans than Klingons drink the stuff!) so Raktajino must be relatively palatable to the non-Klingon. Anyone care to guess as to what it tastes like? What kind of Earth coffee would be the closest equivalent?

Klingons obviously like food that is very spicy and complicated - they would certainly think that all human food is hopelessly bland. So would their attitude towards coffee be the same? Would Raktajino be like getting four or five shots of espresso? Would the very concept of a "light" Raktajino be a contradiction in terms? (forgive me, I'm not that familiar on human coffee even; all I care about is getting a Mocha at Starbucks  )

I had completely forgotten it was Klingon.

Since so many people get it on DS9 I had kinda thought of it a being a Bajoran drink.

Have you ever gotten up in the morning with a hangover and so desperate for caffinne that you decided to drink the last of the cold coffee that had been sitting in the pot since the night before? At someone's house where they use cheap coffee and put in twice as much coffee as they are supposed to? And also, they reuse their filters? And make coffee using their weird hard tap water that leaves red stains on their sinks and stuff?

I have, and I think that's what Raktajino probably tastes like.

I imagine raktajino as being the strongest black coffee you can possibly have that doesn't actually kills you. But you can probably also use it to strip paint off a starship's hull.

I recall somewhere (possibly DS9) that one race actually couldn't drink it because it makes them unusually violent or something...

I'll say it tastes like an espresso with more coffee and a cigar put out in it with a large amount of 180 proof bourbon.

I reckon it's like Turkish coffee. It's so strong that the spoon practically stands up in it and there's sludge left over at the bottom of the cup. I like my coffee strong but I've never dared to try Turkish coffee myself.

yep, Talarians ("A Simple Investigation", also TNG's "Suddenly Human"). Raktajino basically gets them drunk.

How is it that no one has made a joke yet about secretly switching the regular coffee for Taster's Choice?

I'd do it myself but I haven't had my raktajino yet today.

    ^That's Mr. Pibb.

Anyone think that the name Raktajino is a bit stupid? I mean, it sounds a little too Starbucks to me. Maybe it's the "ino". It sounds like when they came up with the name they were trying too hard to link it with the trendiness of the time (cappuccino). I would rather have my Klingons drinking "Raktaj" or "raktajin", not (raises pinky finger) raktajino.

Well, at least it sounds better than Raktajava or Raktaspresso.

I love your avatar, macloudt. Clicked and saved it for future enjoyment. Fun-ny.

Raktajino tastes like sludge. Bean-dirt sludge, but oily polluted sludge all the same. It may also be a refined version non-Klingons drink that's more digestible for them - they seemed to all live on it on DS9.

:) Glad you like it. It was made by LiveJournal user montrealais if you need to credit it. It cracked me up the first time I saw it and is one of my favourite icons.
