I agree with Sadara, he isn't a villian by any means! This is a biological tendency that occurs in ALL Vulcans. Vorik didn't volunteer to act this way. If the option was available to him, he would have asked to leave for Vulcan and settled this properly. While this episode was somewhat unfortunate, it could not have been helped and was resolved without injuries.

Red Panda put it best that Sadara is right?

Vorik had had 7 years to sort this out, and then 2 years to re-sort this out since everything went upside down. Instead of asking every woman on the ship, hours after Caretaker, if they wouldn't mind, so he wouldn't die or kill some one, if it wouldn't be too much trouble, that they wouldn't mind, purely medicinally mind you, to step in at his hour of need... Instead of that AN OUNCE OF FORWARD PLANNING: Vorik balls up to B'Elanna after Pon far had already started and practically proposes marriage and happily ever after, and lets face it, if Pon Far doesn't involve impregnation, then you're doing it wrong (Yes gay Vulcans, I get it, shut up. Plus does Pon far continue after menopause and other infertility issues?). Just think about that for a second... B'Elanna and Vorik raising a kid together (no not romantically together.) after she gives birth in the beginning of season 3?

Vorik's child would be calling Tom "Daddy" and the child would be mostly raised human, the infant would essentially grow up to be a Romulan.

The interesting thing I thought from Bloodfever is that Holographic sex is a shitty half measure because Vulcan's being telepathic can easily tell the difference between something that thinks, feels or emotes and a bock of plastic. Although 5 years later Tuvok wrecks a holographic representation of his wife, then walks away from that encounter like a pimp completely relieved and back to normal.

The only reason that holowhores were not good enough (When if not now would it have not been the perfect Opportunity to see a clip from Jake and Nog's favourite cinematic masterpiece Vulcan Loveslave II THE REVENGE!??) is because rape feels better... Which is not my personal assessment, but just the lesson I feel that this episode is trying to teach me.

In a comic a while back, The Defenders By Giffen and McGuire, the Incredible Hulk was rioting, but then a clever supervillainess gave him a blow job, no not a dirty comic, just a regular comic from Marvel, you don't see anything, the story skipped five minutes, but when the panelling focussed back on the green Goliath, he's deflated into Banner. DEFLATED! Think about the BILLIONS which the US military had spent on tanks, death rays and giant hulkbusting robots to put this monster in his place and failed, when for just a cost of one 1998 Mitsubishi Sabaru a day, you could target him with several moderately priced yet oh so brave callgirls to DEFLATE the problem before he smashes anything that can't be unsmashed.

    Or just castrate Banner?

All the probs with Vorik can be traced to the whole dysfunctional secrecy Vulcans have about the Pon Farr - their whole "it is not something we talk about" attitude. That's the reason Vorik didn't plan ahead for a backup mate, and it's the reason no one came to his aid after the onset of the Pon Farr.

How many female crewmen do you think Tom slept with, now how many female crewmen do he made out with, and then finally how many did he date?

Got those numbers in your head?

I'm not saying that the women on Voyager were easy, but they did have very low standards.

    "Vulcans are Victorian".

From Date of birth you can extrapolate the onset of puberty, they you can track pon far from there to within a margin of plus of minus one year. Although if you have the right super cool futuristic medical tools, I'm assuming that Pon Far leaves the sort of physical damage on a person as might a stroke or a cardiac event would cause which again can be tracked and time stamped.

    The Doctor is negligent.

New medical/security protocols should have been devised after this, and implemented fleet wide as soon as Voyager started using the Midas array to talk to Earth... Unless it was "cheaper" for Starfleet to pay off the odd rape victim than to make it safe for "everyone" when these happened almost never percentagewise.

Pon Farr wasn't something Vulcans discussed with outsiders. It took Kirk a fair amount of effort to get Spock to talk about and they where close friends.

But if Spock had focused more on his human half to be comfortable with casual conversation, he could have just said, "Jim, if I don't get laid soon, I'm gonna die!"

Tuvok was able to get by with Holowife because he was older and had already experienced many pon farrs. He was able to compartmentalize and he knew what to expect. He could meditate effectively to sooth the need he had for telepathic connection and he could get all the physical stuff done separately, just like how a lot of people share a bedroom with someone who doesn't meet their friend needs.

I did admire Vorik for fooling the EMH by playing to his vanity

That's basically what he did say, eventually.

If meditation isn't code for masturbation, they deserve to die.

Of course meditation could be a poor translation from Ancient Vulcan for masturbation, or an intentional mistranslation by a stodgy politically correct ruling council a dozen centuries earlier.

Boy we sure do learn how to get by in the world from Voyager. We get to say "my people" whenever we've said something that we have no back up for and the listener must accept it and we get to have everyone thinking we're specially spiritual because we close the bedroom door to meditate several times a day.

Sad bastard that he is, Chuckles needs a shuttle to himself, and then the complete privacy of having flown away from Voyager at top speed for an hour before he can start meditating.

Although how many times can you break a hip slipping on someone elses splooge before you don't ever want to go back into the holodeck ever again?

You just want the holodeck all to yourself. This is a campaign of slander to make the rest of us resort to real parks.

I learnt the hard way that sex isn't worth the time you put into getting sex.

You give your girlfriend a backrub and a foot rub, 1/2 an hour, longer, and then it's your turn, but instead of handing over a fairsfair back rub, she always pulls the same Darth Vader Deal changing bullshit... "Well I could give you a back rub or we could just have sex? It's completely up to you."

I just thought about the real perverts on Voyager...

Elaborate holographic sequences with situations and "celebrities" but all they do is Kiss.

If you book the holodeck for an hour, how the hell do you pace yourself?

And after all that self control, are you expected to just sit there for 55 minutes so no one thinks less of you?

I don't get why that is a Darth Vader Deal though I assume that means it is somehow bad which I also do not get.

I'm sure people don't have trouble using up their excess holotime if they get what they came for too quickly. There are holocouches for sleeping on and holosports for watching and probably holochips to eat.

They are so used to the holodeck in Star Trek times that they do totally boring things with it, like recreate old drawing room scenes and play wild west with trains. Oh we can go anywhere and do anything, lets be cowboys!! Bleh. I was going to say it's funny how they are all obsessed with the past but people are obsessed with the past today too. It's never been something I've gravitated towards. I just watched all of Downton Abbey which was mind numbingly stupid at times and reminded me of a lame holdeck program pretending to be that era. But now all the people who have been trying to get me to watch it for years can leave me alone.

Darth Vader: Calrissian. Take the princess and the Wookie to my ship.
Lando: You said they'd be left at the city under my supervision!
Darth Vader: I am altering the deal. Pray I don't alter it any further. '

The last person who tried to force me to watch Downton Abbey, ironically borrowed all that Downtown Abbey they had watched from my personal library.

That's funny.. I acquired all of Downton Abbey via the use of my eye patch. At some point during my plod through it my kid sees what I'm watching and says, "why did you get this again, I have already got it all on my laptop." And I was like.. "you are a teenage boy, WTF do you have Downton Abbey for? Has the world gone MAD?!" Only I didn't say the F word because I have to be a good example.

I always liked "Starts with an F, rhymes with suck... Firetruck."

I figured it out. I figure everything out. Porn got so amazingly graphic, and the internet was able to drown any viewer in such a torrential multitude of... Modern man has built up a tolerance to sex and sexuality, a tolerance bordering on boredom, that he doesn't need to spend every second of life sniffing, and begging and paying, that he can calm down and contemplate the nature of the universe for the universes sake and not only for how the universe relates to women's naked bottoms.

Yo! Guy Gardener, please calm down. While you did make a valid point that while others did not know about Vorik's situation, Vorik knew about his situation. He could have easily taken advantage of the less 'Victorian' attitudes his female human co-workers took when it came to intercourse and formed a "buddy". However, in your process of making this point TMI!
