    But it's America's hat.

Don't have an intuitive feel for what 30 C is but if I convert quickly it's around 85 or 86, which is already too damn hot for me. (Not bad off the cuff at 4 AM, eh?)

60 and a light breeze and I'm good to go.

I agree with your statement about warming up vs. cooling off. My line of work is dead in my neck of the woods these days, and I'm at a stopgap position. I'm searching nationally, and I'll go where the work is provided it's not 90 and muggy 9 months out of the year.

It's scary how much alike we are at times. You must be somehow related way back in time to my Australian Grahams or something.

Great minds, boss. Great minds. :D

It's going to get far too hot again around here in the next several days. Hopefully the local fire will stay controlled and there'll be no new ones - anywhere. I've had enough of all this destruction.

With yet more hot days here. Found out the fires in the upper hunter contained.

Tomorrow looks like it will be another hot one.

I gather there are big fires in Gippsland. I was watching the news while giving blood but it was too noisy around me to hear many details.

Edited to add - Sydney has reached its hottest ever temperature - 45.8C (114.26F). Its previous highest temperature was 45.7 in January 1939.

It's even hotter in the western suburbs. In sydney today, the BDO is happening.

Here in Newcastle, it's been a Max of 43c. Could be even more in my bedroom, as it has poor air circulation.

One confirmed death in Gippsland :(. He was found in a burnt out vehicle.

A few days ago a Victorian firefighter, Peter Ronald Cramer, 61, was found dead in Tasmania. He had been backburning and it seems he died of natural causes.

Bushfires are burning in Tasmania again.

People are being evacuated from Molesworth near Hobart. A large fire has been burning there since yesterday. 38 vehicles are attending.

An emergency warning has been issued for Lefroy (north of state).

Other fires are ongoing at or near Cygnet, Fingal, Franklin, Bicheno and Pelverata.

Fires at Huonville, Wiinaleah, and New Norfolk have been contained.

It only got to about 30 degrees here today and yesterday.

A lot of smoke covering Hobart from the Molesworth fire.

Rumour on Facebook is that a water helicopter has crashed in Tasmania but that the pilot is OK.
