Tina Fey Might possibly be the Greatest Lois Lane of them all.

You know apart from the fact that she wasn't allowed to call herself Lois Lane in the new movie Megamind... but this is what I saw thought above and beyond the litigiousness of Copyright and licensing enforcement...

After Superman dies, Lois lane and Lex Luthor get it on while stopping Bizarro from Destroying Metropolis.

    That's what everyone else saw?

    Right?

    Greatest Lois lane Ever!

Has me thinking about if Miss Fey had been in Supermen Returns, which would have made a lot more sense since Kal would have had to have knocked up kate Bosworth when she was 17 to have a kid that old in the movie... But with Time Dilation from near light speed travel and how Kryptonians might be immortal under a yellow sun, having Kal return to Earth basically unaged since the 80s and Lois pushing 40 would have been an interesting angel, but if Tina had rocked out Superman returns it would have sucked less to the point that it might have been half way decent.

I would actually call Tighten an Evil Jimmy Olsen more than Bizarro, but you're spot on that Fey was great in the role. If anything, Megamind was closer to being Bizarro what with being the hero's "opposite", being another color, not really being evil so much as just...well *trying* to be a villain because that's what a guy opposed to the hero is supposed to do...

But just a point on Bosworth, I think that it was just a case of Bosworth playing someone much older than her (the opposite of what happened with the cast of Dawson's Creek).

    Megamind was great.

You might have something there. Tina Fey looks about the right age to be playing Lois Lane, especially if they're looking for an older Superman. She looks like she could play a good reporter, which was my problem with Kate Boswort's Lois. She was a bit too young looking for the role, which hurt her believability considering she's supposed to have some seniority in the department. She also actually kind of looks a bit like like Margot Kidder

Remember all the early Smallville Awar?

Lex (To Clark): "Our Friendship is going to be the stuff of legends."

Growing up together in a small town being under appreciated and eclipsed by someone who doesn't even "try" to make you look like yesterdays lunch.

Well yeah, he's basically Lex Luthor if Luthor was a harmless villain whose more out to play a big game of Tom and Jerry with the hero than really do anything bad.

Well since Byne after the first Crisis, well maybe not after Byrne if you count the Planet Lexor stories (A precrisis (60s/70s) planet who's population see's Luthor as the hero and Superman as the villain for some ungodly reason.) Luthor was the greatest hero (Advancing science, industry and philanthropy with his billions) in the world until Superman showed up, and then afterwards it was just a hyperboloidal case of mirror mirror.

There was some thing, I don't remember from where, but Superman had been sidelined for a while and when he got back, he speachified all snippyily and snide toward Luthor... "You said that I was the only thing in the way of you saving the world Luthor? Well I was gone for 5 years (might have been the movie? r one of the comics about/prequelling the movie?) and you did nothing."

Remember how pissed John Shea's Luthor was in the beginning? there he was saving the world for profit and suddenly the hearts and minds of the children are in the back pocket (Superman doesn't have pockets... No, there's one in his cape.) of the alien because he rescues kittens out of trees.

The harmlessness of Lex Luthor is arguable depending on which Lex Luthor you are talking about, good god, he was elected President after all ...and Megamind didn't understand he was just playing a game until it all went tits up and became all too frakking real.

I always thought Hamm would make a good Superman, he's the right age for an experienced Journalist too.

Maybe Alec Baldwin as Perry White?

Really? I would have shaved him and called the Lad Luthor. :)

Buzz Aldrin was on 30 Rock a couple weeks back and he was freaking hilarious.

    There's your Perry White.

I dunno, she's a little old for the part. Even with a Superman in his 35-40's. Supes would probably look best with a 30-35 year old Lois. But she does look the part. I just cant see her in a serious role. ie not a SNL type comedy.

I just don't see Hamm as Superman, Clark Kent yes, Lex definitely but I really don't get all the fan furor over him playing Supes. It might interest you Guy or maybe you already know since you read comics that Superman/Batman recently did another take on the Planet Lexor stories and that Lori Luthor is a supporting character in the new Superboy relaunch and has been trying to hit on Connor to which he avoids her like the plague since they're related.

    Reading yes, reading everything?

    Oh boy.

I have over ten gigs of comics on my hard drive I have to get around to reading, but Superman/batman left me cold once upon a time and I stopped reading it a couple years ago, even though I have most of them to date pending...

Well does Conner think that he is her father and she thinks that he is her brother?

Tina was in an awful holiday movie called Spring BreakDOWN, which had Justin Hartly marching though one side to the next shirtless though out the entire pic, so she had an "in" into Smallville as much as he had an "in" into a walkthrough on SNL or 30 Rock.

I'm getting so old that adult women who have been adults for a very long time to me, look like kiddie porn. It just feels safer to stick to my own age group or higher than lust after women in their 20s.

Besides what I love about Lois generally is that she is so much larger than life using Kent like a pair of comfy slippers over hot coals... Margot Kidder just wouldn't shut up. It took nothing short than meeting a god from out of space to make the woman pause for three seconds.

It's called "Tom Hanks Syndrome", and there are success stories to it.

In his review of "Megamind", Ebert seemed to think she was clearly channeling Margo Kidder's Lois Lane. Maybe her performance was an intentional homage...it makes sense since Megamind and Metro Man are obviously inspired by Superman and Lex Luthor (except for the part about both of them being aliens)*.

    *unless you're JJ Abrams. :p

    It's good.
It also makes Jimmy Fallon - Jimmy Olsen by default!

Since Supes is an ageless alien, why in the world would Lois need look younger than him? As long as they're both somewhere in a ten year age range it ought to work just fine. Margot Kidder was 4 years older than Chris Reeve and it was largely their amazing chemistry that made Superman: The Movie and Superman II work, though Reeve gets all the credit for it since Kidder doesn't fit most young guys idea of hot enough - an issue that is really secondary to a good Lois.

As for Tina Fey as Lois and the "seriousness" of the role - let's see, Lois is in stories about an alien from another galaxy who somehow manages to look exactly like a human being and can defy all the laws of physics. Not really too serious. And Lois is best with a very sharp wit. I say to the idea - BRILLIANT!

Good point. I have often thought something similar is truth for Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher. Because Cain did visually match many fans' expectations of what Clark/Superman should look (basically to look like Christopher Reeve), Teri's performance is often elevated above his. Even imaging pairing her with another actor. Often with Reeve. Yet as you correctly point out successful chemistry does not work that way. The two actors are playing off the other. Good acting does not happen in isolation.

Well, the important thing to take from this movie is that Will Ferrell should play Jor-El.

Seriously, I'll pay full price to see a Superman movie with Fey as Lois Lane without knowing a single other thing about it.
