I'm guessing that there will be missions among them all that won't be unlocked until you do a specific mission from someone else, which would feel more dynamic and personal compared to simply selecting a mission marker from the map.

The GTA5 map has leaked online after the game's strategy guide began arriving in stores. If you don't want to be spoiled, don't click the link.

The city looks a little small, but I'm very excited about all that wilderness, which is something I felt was lacking from GTA4. There's a couple of decently-sized towns in there, and a lot of mountains. In fact, other than the city, the small desert region, and the Alamo Sea, the rest of the map appears to be mountains.

That map somehow manages to look smaller than the San Andreas map, when that's not the case at all.

Late to this party but... don't see Las Venturas in that map. So no gambling?

Someone in the GTAV forums posted an image of a building that has a sign that appears to say casino on it near the racetrack, so gambling may still be in. No Las Venturas or San Fierro in this GTA, though.

There might be gambling, as there are casinos pretty much anywhere these days, but they're focusing on Los Santos and the Countryside. Might be possible to see Las Venturas and San Fierro in the distance though.

The scale of that map is dubious, just look at the size of the airports. This map appears to be much more accurate:

Gameplay footage is starting to leak out, but Rockstar is quashing it pretty quick. Some observations from what I've seen:

    1) If you clip your plane's wing off a building, your wing will fall off and you'll spiral out of control. Awesome.
    2) The Busted and Wasted screens are back when you're arrested or killed.
    3) The strippers now take their tops off in the strip clubs. Truly, we have entered video games' golden age.

    No eating this time around?
The previews and reviews I've seen don't mention it at all.

I liked how you could starve to death in San Andreas.

Also having to get fuel for your cars would be great. I always missed that in GTA games

Yeah, a fuel element would be neat. It would add a tactical element to the game where if you run out of fuel, you'd be forced to ditch the car for another one, which would be interesting in the heat of the moment.

I watched some free-roam livestreams of the game over the weekend, and it has me more hyped than ever. The game plays like a refined GTA4 with many the little annoyances of that game seemingly gone, most of the elements present in San Andreas that were missing in IV are back, and there's some stuff from RDR thrown in as well. It's almost like a sequel to all three of those games in a weird, yet exciting, way.

I'll post the rest of my observations behind a spoiler tag just in case some of you don't want to know about the world size or obtainable vehicles until you play. There's no story spoilers.

    1) The map is big, but not huge. It takes about 5-6 minutes to drive from the northern end to the southern end on the motorway. The countryside isn't empty, there's unique buildings and structures dotted across the map.

    2) Vehicle customisation is extensive, surpassing what was possible in the Saints Row games (I'm not sure about SR4, but I assume vehicle customisation in that game is similar to SR3). Modifying things such as body armour, suspension, and tyre types makes changes the stats of the car which affect handling.

    3) The 747 stand-in is flyable, which makes it the largest vehicle yet in a GTA game. Should be fun trying to land that successfully on the peak of Mt Chilliad.

    4) Switching characters takes way longer than shown in the trailer. It normally seems to take about 15 seconds, but it's much faster if the character you're switching to is nearby.

You have regenerating health for the first 50%, to get 100% health you have to eat or use a medkit. I'm not sure if fast food joints are in the game this time, but I read you can buy food from convenience stores.

I read an interview where Sam Houser, the guy in charge of Rockstar games, revealed that he wanted a fuel system in the games but got talked out of it by the developers. Maybe they prototyped the idea and found it more annoying than fun?

I'm not sure I want to starve and run out of fuel in GTA. Those are some sim elements I could do without while causing mayhem. Besides, I don't think I ever keep a car long enough to run out of fuel. :)

    Sooooooooooo close...

Ordered mine from Shop To.Net as they typically always get games to you 1 day before release so hoping I get it on Monday. Even booked day off work ;) can't wait.

The 747 in the hanger at Las Venturas airport in GTA:SA is flyable - although my way of doing it does utilize spawning a jetpack to get on top of a light aircraft that I've positioned next to the 747 in order to reach the door...there's probably an easier way but it works for me. :)

    EDIT: I misremembered - it's an AT-400, apparently. Not a 747. My bad. Carry on. :)

The reviews are in and it's currently sitting at 98 on Metacritic. Mostly 10/10s, a couple of reviews dipping down to 9/10, and a 7/10 from the Escapist where the reviewer criticised the game for having "despicable characters as the protagonists". Sounds about right.

Possibly. I like to think that anything's possible, though, and that it's all in the way they approach things. For example, remember all those gas stations in San Andreas? Just scenery. But imagine if they were more than just scenery, and interactive, and Rockstar always strive to make their worlds more interactive. Fuel could be only active in free roam, unless a specific mission calls for it.
