M'Ress: "I'm still th' jungle queen!" *HIC*

Spock: "Honestly, Lieutenant, again? Why is a Caitian indulging in Terran holidays, anyway?"

Just a silly follow-up to an earlier render depicting Spock staring at a Christmas tree with the comm' officer's tail emerging from the mass of pine needles and baubles.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

I rather lucked out with her giddy expression. I forgot the base figure, inspired by anime and manga designs, has a blink morph that makes the eyes squint in a "rainbow" shaped arch.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

Trying a "new" hair prop with my Aiko 3 based M'Ress mesh. I place the word "new" within quotes because I've had the geometry for a few years even though I've just now posted it. An on-line friend shared the digital "wig" she originally modeled for another figure. She cautioned I'd probably want to modify it to better capture the design presented in the original Filmation animation cels. Alas, at that time, I had next to no skill with wireframe "deformers" to properly reshape the object. but recently I've had moderate success with another model, so I took a whack at it. Yeah, there are some deviations from the cartoon drawings, primarily the sideburn "locks". In the cartoon, they draped behind the shoulders. But the "deformers" or "magnets" as they are labeled in Poser, started to interfere with the geometry of the large "fall" of hair as I tried to pull the locks backwards. I simply gave up and decided to drape them forward. And while different from the cartoon, I liked the effect I achieved.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

Like a few other digital characters I have in my content folders, I continually load it and try to improve various aspects.

Some of you may remember the "beach snapshot" I posted a page or two earlier. That employed a very different approach, three "tail" props (of all things) bent and positioned to resemble an insanely fluffy "mane". It looks closest to the animation cels, but each prop has something like 40 transparency maps (a technique used to render part of a textured surface "invisble") to "feather" the hair strands. But that trick costs extra CPU cycles. Having over a hundred brings the render time to a smail's pace! This prop has but a single "trans-map" to feather the hair in the back, so it renders comparatively lightning fast.

It's definitely a case of weighing pros and cons.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

"Away team"? "Away team"?! Kirk wouldn't join a wimpy lil' "away team"! Oh, no, no, no! Kirk and company, they had "landing parties" with the emphasis on PAR-TAY!!!

Nah, just riffing on ya', Chema'. Funny how the terms "away team" and "away mission" have all but eclipsed the original series terminology.

Yeah, I can assemble a landing party. I have a few different uniformed figures to accompany her on the planet, alien vessel, abandoned starship, wherever.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

"Scotty, is the landing party ready to return to the ship?"

"No yet sir! They're still partying!"
