Actually, I just read an interview with Jackson from last week where he said that he had nothing to do with the Blu-Ray releases other than approving them. I would be very shocked if he was intentionally holding out on the EEs.

Hasn't Lord Of The Rings always been the ultimate double dipper? There is always a better version on the horizon.

Just because he didn't have to do anything for the theatrical BR release doesn't mean he and the studio don't have something a little more elaborate planned for the Extended Edition set, especially if they plan no tying it in somehow with the Hobbit movie(s).

All I know is that I'm going to wait for the extended version to come out on Blu-Ray. That trilogy is a marathon to watch and I like it that way.

Wow. Total double dip. Hell, the original DVDs had the triple dip with the "new bonus features" released after the EEs.

I'm waiting for them to restore the cut endings to ROTK. That'd probably be the only reason why I'd pick it up otherwise.

So there was talk before about changing Gollum in FOTR to match TTT and ROTK in the next release. I assume that will occur for this Bluray release.

New Line, I've got one word for you: Seamless Branching.

I will wait patiently for the extended editions.

The extended versions WILL come out -- the trademark DVD move of double dipping is starting to gain momentum now that Blu-ray is getting big (Troy, Casino Royale, 300, Full Metal Jacket and Goodfellas are some double dipped titles I can name off hand).

But what's funny is that when this next generation of format (both Blu-ray and HD-DVD) was being announced, they mentioned how much space there would be, yet they don't put both versions of a movie on the same disc (Dodgeball) and often leave out most or all of the special features! The latter, I'm guessing, is part of the double dip move.

Would you believe I am a huge fan of these movies but have never seen the extended editions? Maybe I'm not as huge a fan as I think.

What basically happened was I couldn't wait for the EEs so I bought the theatricals as soon as they were available. Then I couldn't justify the extra expense for the EEs.

This time around I may actually wait for the EEs.

I might rent these, but I'll definitely wait for the EEs before buying them.

Do so, only version I watch these days.

Oh and yeah, waiting for EEs. But I don't have a BD player yet anyways.

Another LOTR dvd release! Looks like its time for ol' Pete Jackson to pay his utilities bill!
