I have no idea - it just didn't look like the paperback. Could be the lighting, or an odd angle, but it just looks different.

With out a joke in the slightest, it looks to me like you're clutching the book with your calves.

But that's probably just a trick of the perspective, and I am more the fool for believing it.

I was sure I could see a dust jacket, which are rarely on softcovers,

Where is this massive hard book in relation to teacake's crotch, where oh where could it be..

It's a paperback, it is the same size as all standard Trek paperbacks though it actually looks about 1 mm less in height which I noticed right away but perhaps it's just new and unpummeled.

    IT IS SHINY.

Also I am very short and have smallish feet. I bought those shoes in the children's section. I bought.. 5 pairs of them because I want to wear rainbow shoes forever and they are cheapass shoes and will not last which is not fair because it is very hard to find rainbow shoes. Or rainbow anything. The world isn't ready.

Calves are the bump between your kneecaps and your ankles.

A totally different zip code to your crotch, I should hope.

My body just keeps getting more and more distorted looking the further this scenario goes. That is my hand holding the book.

Tomorrow I will take a photo of the book on top of my cat and see what people make of my cat's monstrous yet curiously stunted body.

Considering the endless tour you took your Eternal Tide on... Your cat is going to balance that book on her head like one of those African Villagers carrying massive water jugs?

Or do you already have a cat saddle, and you can snug one edge into a saddlebag?

This has the makings of a Doctor Seuss story. Teacake: The Cat and The Book.

Oh, I see now. I was getting a false perspective, because the book is not near your feet as I thought. What was throwing me off was part of the book was above your left foot, but the other side looked like it was touching the floor. Also, I've been under the influence off and on for the past 14 hours.

I'll let you all know when I change my desk top background again.

    It's set to tile.

I've transformed Teacake into a centipede.

That's like something out of Alice in Wonderland. A centipede on a teacake saying, "Who are you?" And no matter where you look, every side of the teacake says "Eat me".

We've gone from scissoring to rainbow shoe fetishes to comestible teacakes. It's hard to say.

I mentioned it in my Time Travel Novels group. I dunno how many of the other members are into Star Trek, though.

    Works for me!

For the record, there is no hardcover edition. We're talking mass-market paperback (and ebook) here.
