... that would have been better done by someone else.

Party In The USA - Miley is sorta alright on this one, because it is a fun little pop tune that doesn't require terrific vocals. Still could have been better with good vocals by Demi Lovato or Selena Gomez.

The Climb - This song needed beautiful vocals, and I can't even listen to it as is, but I know it could have been a classic with someone with some real singing chops on it.

Wrecking Ball - Beautiful, angry, emotional song that could have been soooo much better with a non-chipmunk like maybe Amy Lee from Evanescence.

She sounds like she does, she doesn't write these songs, she looks like Justin Bieber in bad drag, and I refuse to believe that Billy Ray has enough power to pull all of this for her, either. So why does the creative team behind her songs and her production keep wasting all of this on her?!

My crazy theory is that it's probably because she makes a metric fuckton of money though album/single sales and concerts, and has legions of loyal, adoring fans who just happen to not be you. Plus, strangely enough, she's actually got some critical acclaim and awards to go along with the money, so obviously not everyone agrees with your assessment that she's a musical trainwreck.

Seriously, did everyone just fall asleep for the past fifty years and wake up thinking the Mileys and Beibers of the world are some new phenomenon? You're not the target audience, that doesn't mean there is no audience whatsoever. Jeebus.

And, to be fair, she does have some talent as a singer and performer. Some of her most recent work and antics may not be the best example of this, sure, but she does have talent.

Because she is a product that can be easily planned, packaged and sold to the general public.

I would write for her. She has a good voice, and she has the punch and clout to make a song very popular.

Yeah, I'm not the target demographic, but I'm not sure I'm not the target audience anyway. Here is a short list of contemporary artists that I like:

    One Direction
    Ed Sheeran
    Selena Gomez
    Ylvis
    Kesha
    Macklemore
    Lorde
    Marina and The Diamonds
    Katy Perry
    Justin Timberlake
and I could go on, and I even like "Baby" by Justin Bieber.

And, I watched Hannah Montana (along with iCarly and Suite Life and others) with my daughter. On purpose. And enjoyed them (especially iCarly).

With Miley, there is a miscalibration between her level of vocal talent and of attractiveness and her level of fame, and I honestly feel, as I said, that these songs are being wasted on her. She's a Disney product, but so are Lovato and Gomez and Duff and they have real vocal skills, too. So, I don't get it.

That's a common problem. Fame doesn't require talent, it requires marketing. That's all it needs.

So, I decided to look around for covers of some of Miley's songs by more vocally talented artists. I found some versions of Wrecking Ball that I just had to share....

Fairly horrifying but noteworthy  cover by porn star Ron Jeremy:

Adequate but overproduced version by Rebecca Black:

And finally, a technically *excellent* cover by Eli Lieb:

But I say "technically" because I FELT nothing, whereas Miley's version gets to me a little. So maybe there's something to her, after all, even with that voice. Hmm.

I think she does have vocal talent, even though I don't like her music that much. I think I already shared this video in a previous thread on Miley Cyrus, but I do think it's a great cover by her so here it is again:
