I'm not for spamming but I would like the 5,000,000 post in 'The 5,000,000th Post' thread. I'm so conflicted.
One thing's for certain. No matter which thread or forum it will occur in it will be glorious. Unless it's just a post about why the new Trek film is worse than Future Space Stalin, in which case screw that noise. Let's try to make sure its about Lolcats or weed.
Take the Ebay approach. Let everyone else do the work and then swoop in at the last second and make the winning post.
At the current rate of posting, it looks like the milestone will be reached late today or early tomorrow. I'm now wondering if it will be a post in this very form. Q2
So, going by the last post I observed (waited for the posts number to tick up by one, then hit "New Posts" quickly), this post is number 4,995,746 (ID 8829895). So the winning post should have the ID number 8834149. (Preemptive link: http://www.trekbbs.com/showpost.php?p=88341495 ) EDIT: Or not.... The post numbers don't seem to make any sense, unless there were some posts later than that one in forums I can't see.
Okay, new calculation! After observing and recording the post count and post IDs for a while, I've discovered that apparently the post ID goes up by 3 for each individual post.* (Why, I have no idea. ) So I have now corrected my calculation, and it fits with my observations perfectly. The 5,000,000th post will be ID number 8842657! * Seriously, click on any post ID number to open a single post, and then change that number in the address up or down by one or two, and you'll get an error. Change it by a multiple of three, and you'll find another post. Weird.
Barely 3,500 left. That's more than 700 in about twelve hours. At this current rate (if it stays at about the same per-minute) I'm guessing sometime on Friday night or Saturday morning, but we could have a major surge in posting and then who knows.
