    Or perhaps . . .

Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Diamonds are Forever, Live and Let Die, The Man with the Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy, A View to a Kill, The Living Daylights, License to Kill, Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough, Die Another Day, Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall . . . .

Seriously, the numbered sequel thing is a relatively new trend that caught on in the eighties or so. Before then, sequels had actual titles: Bride of Frankenstein, Tarzan's New York Adventure, Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe, Taste the Blood of Dracula, Godzilla vs. the Thing, etc.

Exactly. It wasn't until around the time films like Godfather Part 2 came around that numbered sequels started popping up more and more.

Also... Oh my Gosh! Greg Cox!!! I know you probably hear this all the time, but I love your Khan and Q Continuum novels. :D

I saw the movie this morning and loved it.
As for the sequel, I would love to see them bring in Lex as a behind the scenes manipulator working with someone like Brainiac or Metallo.
Or what about Parasite as a villain? That's someone I don't think we've ever seen in live action before, and who could lead to some spectacular visual effects sequences.

Goyer was asked about whether Luthor might have an interest in studying Zod's corpse, and replied that he had no comment on that.

Given the way this movie was written and the history of the creators I think you can rely upon the implications of a lot of the events in this movie being taken into account next time around.

Thanks! It's always great to hear from a satisfied reader.

Hope you like the Man of Steel book, too!

Hey Greg, have you seen the movie yet? Are there any scenes in the book that didn't make the final cut in theatres?

I predict the sequel will be a Luthor/Brainiac team up. There were subtle hints regarding Brainiac in the film, and I could imagine Lex up in his tower watching the battle of Metropolis unfold. He'll have an enormous amount of fodder against Superman this time. The invasion plot was very smart, because now at least Lex has a near ironclad excuse for his agenda against Superman. Rather than just simply hating him.

What were the subtle Brainiac hints?

I loved the movie. I wondered though if they pushed the fight scenes so far that they are going to have a hard time topping them in sequels. Alien invasion. Fighting someone of equal powers. An Apokolips invasion, really fighting any villain. Parasite with Superman's powers would be similar to Zod. Fighting the metallic tentacles of the World builder is similar to fighting robots.

I am not at all saying there should not have had huge fight scenes. Its just that it keep escalating so much they are going to be clever to top it so its not repetitive.

I think any Brainiac story should be a romantic comedy involving Siri.

Believe it or not, I haven't managed to make it to the movie yet. (I live in Amish country, so multiplexes are few and far between.)

I'm hoping to make it this week once work dies down a bit.

(The book officially goes on sale today, btw.)

I really hope it stays #1 next weekend, but it's probably not likely with the new Monsters Inc movie.

Next weekend. Monsters University will be #1, but Man of Steel has a good chance to beat WWZ for #2.

Saw a couple of clips, it doesn't look very good at all. The review here isn't all that shiny either.

I hear the book is pretty great though.

I think MoS and MU will have a close race for #1, WWZ will be a distant 3. I love Brad Pitt but even he's not going to get me in to see that piece of shit.
