Title: Across the Road Series: ST:TOS, Arc of the Wolf Timeline: 2286, just before ST:IV Words: 970 Disclaimer: They are all Paramount's, not mine. Notes: It's... something. I don't even quite know what. It's also out of context. The song is 'One Step Closer' by U2. -- Pulled for story control.
Nobody seems to write internal struggle and anguish quite like you do. While readings this I was actually thinking: Damn, I should try something like this once. Very nicely done.
One brilliant author who goes well above anything I can hope to is Norman Maclean who wrote 'A River Runs Through It'. If I have any competency at it, it's only because I've studied a true master. Thanks so much, CeJay.
Wow, great little story. Excellent writing. I have the feeling we already have a winner for this contest...
LOL! I doubt it. There are so many excellent authors here that I'll be lucky if I place in the top three. But thank you very much for the vote of confidence.
I love how you are able to so believably get inside the quiet moments for the Trek characters. Scotty's reaction to the loss of the Enterprise is never shown in the movies but it must have been a powerfully emotional experience for him - but I can completely believe he would hide all that because there was work to be done. btw - thank you for entering so early - you've inspired me to think of a story (whether I'll get it written is another matter).
Very well done...a very fitting experience reading this with the song playing. Trampledamage and CeJay really hit the nail on the head...I repeat their comments.
::coughs:: I spend an absurd amount of time wandering around his headspace. It's more than a little fascinating -- just when you think you've got every single thing figured out, some other facet comes to light. Thank you very much!
A fitting tribute to both Scotty and James Doohan. The old warhorse who's always there, always reliable, who never gives up, and never asks for any praise or recognition for what he's done--the mere fact that the job is done is good enough for him.
That was simply beautiful and serenely touching. An emotional time for all the crew but again you've just nailed down the external and internal Scotty. Much praise and congratulations for a fine piece of writing and an excellent song choice. Early days I know but we might be 'One Step Closer' to a winner ...
I don't know if I would say that it's entirely fair, what the universe ends up doing to him, but I will say that he's at least stalwart through it. Thanks for the comments! LOL! It's only the tenth, and you lot are all fabulous writers. I still will be surprised if I even place. And thank you for the comment, very much.
Your stuff is great IMO. I wish my stuff was a fraction as good, but in the mean time I'm happy if I get one done on time.
