So is anyone else getting multiple versions. I'm getting the pewter Enterprise one from Amazon, and the badges from Best Buy. I'm trying to resist the urge to get the Target Enterprise-case, but I want to see it first. The steelbook version is also tempting.

Is the steelbook version a sturdier case?

It depends. If it's like the Disney steelbooks, they are pretty sturdy. Here's a pic of the one for "Up." If it's like this, I'd want it. But there's other ones that are kinda crappier.

Oh, yeah; that looks sturdy. I guess you have to see it first.

    Late to the thread.

I just read the track listings and I'm pissed! All the GOOD behind the scenes features (production art, prop design, etc) are on the BluRay. The 2-disc DVD version only has the stupid talking heads actor/director crap!

Don't know what you spending too much time listening to yourself has to do with the topic...

Well Paramount Home Video had to have something to put on the Special Collector's Edition DVD in a few years since they are so well known for getting Trek fans to double dip, er quadruple dip (on TOS).

The DVD art is incredibly... boring. How many times are they going to reuse the same pictures? *makes custom cover*

Yeah, but that would cost money, which if they feel they don't need to they won't spend, besides you have to get an approved budget from the studio for that sort of thing and they would just ask; why? When they feel they already have artwork for the film made.

Here in Australia, JB HiFi is offering the regular two-disk DVD (cover art with Kirk, Spock and Uhura), plus for a few dollars more each, three different collectible cardboard sleeves over the same DVD set: one has Kirk, one Spock and one Nero.

For other various releases, they sometimes have a lenticular cover insert, or a tin container. This time it's three different over-sleeves.

They also have a boxed set that comes with a plastic Enterprise model. I thought it would be like the "Get Smart" shoephone, where the two DVDs were already in the novelty holder, but in the Star Trek pack, there's a normal two-disc DVD with the regular cover art inside the box. It's your choice to put the discs inside the starship model, after you assemble it.
