Oh.... Okana. I actually like the character he's like a failed attempt at a Han Solo while being a Malcolm Reynolds prototype.

But he's likable enough and I think the actor would have made for an interesting Riker. Though Frakes did a fantabulous job.

The episode itself overall isn't bad... Aside from the nonsense with Data, Joe Piscopo, and the "humor" attempts in it. Which was just terrible. The terrible Jerry Lewis impersonation is just painful on Deep-13 levels.

Whoever gave the go-ahead for this episode deserves to be beaten with a bag of oranges.

Yeah, all the humor scenes with Data were quite bad and brings down the whole episode.

But I thought the plot with Okana was just average.

Meh. Silly episode, but there are far worse.

I always thought Okona was a bad attempt at a younger version of Harry Mudd.

^^^ Yeah. Back in that first season, there were always TOS comparisons. I thought for sure Okona was gonna be a TNG Harry Mudd-type, a recurring scoundrel who'd turn up every now and then.

Nope, he was a one shot.

I don't mind this episode at all, because Okana is played by The Rocketeer.

He wasn't interesting, he wasn't likable, he wasn't charming, and was bleh to watch. Then the B plot with Joe Piscapo comes in and facepalming ensues.

This episode is corny as hell, and produced my least favorite Whoopi Goldberg-as-Guinan Moment:

    You're a droid, and I'm Annoyed.

No Guinan, that is not funny, at. all.

Of course later in the season we got one of Guinan's best moments with Riker flirting her, so it all evens out in the end. ;)

    You're a 'droid, and I'm a 'noid ;)

Not funny if you have to explain it and I understand Data's failure to "get it". The "humour" here was terrible, how could they write it so terribly?!

Trek doesn't have a very good history with forced, intentional, humor.

Fast forward to Teri Hatcher's scene, drool a bit, then turn it off.

Well, there's also the chick Okana bangs, she's worth checking out.

Take the Data understanding humor stuff out and I like the episode. Okana could have made for a interesting recurring character, like Harry Mudd. He would have fit right in with DS9 as a partner in crime with Quark or just a recurring trader that ocassionally pops by to annoy the crap out of Quark and Odo

the character is a laughable failure as a "charming rogue" type. It's a sure sign that he's not one if the episode keeps TELLING you over and over again what a charming rogue he is. This episode is a classic example of "informed attribute" when it comes to Okona. The humor sub-plot is worse.

Still, it's a sub-par episode but not an awful one.

Goofy episode. Okona comes off as obnoxious, yet everyone is impressed by him. It's odd.

Not one of my favorites. Maybe they were trying to reward William O. Campbell for his runner-up audition as Riker. Okona never struck me as a Harry Mudd. But a Harry Mudd played by Rodney Dangerfield would have been glorious.

That she is. I've always been annoyed by her for some reason.

When she just pops up in the Nexus in generations I laughed.
Of course she would be there...uh huh yep.

Speaking of Okana, wasn't that actor in the running to be Riker?
I thought I read somewhere he auditioned for the role.

EDIT: MELAKON beat me to it.

Now THAT was a funny line. Plus, I love Data's response to Guinan, "Maybe it was not funny."

That one had me in stitches, because as much as I love Guinan, I wholly agree with Data.

Then there was the quick seduction of the transporter officer and the subsequent trip to her quarters. The first time I saw that episode as an adult, and understood what just happened, all I could think was "you magnificent bastard".
