While I'm still only in the writing and early pre-production phase, I present to you my first contribution to the Star Trek fanfilm world:
    Pacific 201

    Synopsis
The year is 2200. Four decades have passed since the devastating Romulan War, and while Earth prevailed, mankind was scarred with the memory of its first interstellar war. Now, humanity's future belongs to the children of those who fought and died those years ago, and they are eager to resume peaceful exploration of the stars.

These hopes and dreams ride with the launch of Earth's newest flagship, the starship Pacific. But the final frontier is full of untold dangers, and when crisis befalls the Pacific in deep space, it will take a crew of incredible bravery and fortitude to boldly go into the unknown.

    Basic Dramatic Premise
This project will focus heavily on the 'normal' people in Starfleet, and how they live and work on a starship. The operation of a starship isn't as easy as calling orders and pushing buttons. "Pacific 201" will focus on the skill and expertise required of every crewmember to complete the mission. It's not just the bridge crew that handles everything. Hundreds of people need to do their jobs just right.

In this sense, the movie will take on a "documentary" style of filmmaking. While being a dramatic film, the visual style will be as though the film crew is actually there recording the events. And when crisis befalls the Pacific, nobody is any more or less important than another. This is a story about a ship, her crew, and their struggle with the unknown.

    Design Philosophy
Going along with the dramatic focus of the project, the designs will have a very utilitarian, functional, and practical feel. The ship needs to feel like a place where real people live and work. This philosophy carries over very notably to the design of the ship exterior, which is a little bit of a departure from other "Trek" ships. The Pacific is a rugged, practical machine built for the depths of space.

    Well, that's all for now!

I just liked your Facebook page. I'll be following your progress. Good luck with this 'below decks' approach.

    Thanks for the comments!

And surak-toc, I'm glad you asked. I myself am really big on knowing the specs of the ships in Starfleet, and I've been pretty meticulous about scale, deck count, crew complement and more. Here's a quick fact sheet I made:

Playing around with some prop ideas.
Here's my pre-TOS padd concept prop, with some FJ technical manual artwork for the graphic.
The paper surface is intentional, as the prop will not be illuminated. But for detail shots, the "paper" will be animated, and have colors and interface (as well as being a literal physical writing surface). Essentially, the in-universe explanation is that you can physically write on the surface with a pen or pencil, and the padd can store that writing as searchable data. That way, something that /seems/ old fashioned to modern audiences in TOS is actually a fairly high-tech piece of hardware. Not just a chunky black iPad.

A very work-in-progress render of another ship in the 2200 starfleet: USS Interceptor.

Oh, sure - cool. We're in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Here's some other new stuff: some revised costume sketches.

Nice uniforms, really looking forward to seeing these in real form, I am wondering are you going to build a proper set or is it green screen

    Thanks!
Currently, the idea is to build at least a full bridge and corridor, and then a few partial sets for greenscreen extension.

The "you-are-there" feel of the movie necessitates some level of physical sets. I want to make sure that the events feel like they're happening in a real place.

I like it. Although it seems a little Hitchhiker's Guide to me.

Also the art is not FJ, it's aridas sofia: http://cygnus-x1.net/links/lcars/blueprints/frs/frs-2-sheet-1.jpg and http://cygnus-x1.net/links/lcars/blueprints/frs/frs-1-sheet-4.jpg

Sure, I'd be happy to. Here's a quick render of the ship as it currently is. All details are subject to change.

Hmmm, I don't think any Hitchhiker's Guide relationship is clear enough for me to worry - though it's not like any of that technical explanation will be said on-screen. It'll just be visual details.

And thanks for the correction. I'm not very well-versed in all the technical books, so I was bound to misattribute something.

A look at a new costume concept for Mission Control specialists at Starfleet HQ. These specialists play an instrumental part in the film.

Will you be establishing any backstory going off on the Romulan War series Enterprise novels? I know that some of the details in these books were written in mind with what the Enterprise folks were planning to do during the Romulan War.
