I'm worried Mark Gatiss might take over. He's not proven to be a very good Doctor Who writer with both his scripts and his books.
I thought STscoop had mentioned Toby Whithouse at one point was a front runner? Or at least a rumoured front runner? My apologies if I'm misremembering.
Well, Toby Whithouse is looking for work, knows how to run a show, and most of his Doctor Who episodes are pretty good. He's as good a choice as any to take over. But really, I don't think it's necessary to replace Moffat yet. Someone just needs to overrule him and stop splitting the seasons.
Then you need someone to replace him, since he's simply not writing the second half in a timely fashion.
Yep..and it seems you´re right on the money with that. In an recent con interview Moffat basically says "Whoever thinks that the 3D special is going to be the only thing is nuts".
We know it's not the only thing. There's AAIT&S, a Culture Show retrospective, another Official Convention etc. What there won't be are any more episodes of the TV series beyond the eight that are in the can, plus Anniversary & Xmas Specials.
He used to mention Whithouse, now he mentions Chibnall, next week he might mention someone else... Both Whithouse and Chibnell are obvious choices, as is Gatiss (although I think he has less producer experience.) You could throw in the Merlin creators and probably a few others...and this assumes it'll be an obvious choice. Me I'd quite like to see Joe Aherne in charge given I've always liked the stuff he's done (even if Crickley Hall was a bit lacking). Or here's a random idea...Noel Clarke...
Was anything really officially announced? I thought all our info was just coming off of a placard at a toy fair or something.
A placard from BBC Worldwide. If they don't know what's going on, there are bigger problems at hand in the BBC...
Hmm..someone a few posts back said that BBC has this policy of not lying...but putting out information that´s incomplete isn´t lying, right?
The BBC also has a habit of not announcing things way in advance, sometimes not even announcing things a few weeks before they're going to air!
I've never claimed anyone's getting the job. Anyway, for better or worse we have Moffat for one more series. However long that takes to make and air...
Actually, Doctor Who hits Braga's sensibilities pretty well. And he's a steady hand who knows how to make the trains run on time which is why he keeps working steadily in Hollywood. Doctor Who could do a lot worse than Brannon Braga.
In that same interview he confirmed that we'd have the 3D special, Xmas special, and AAIT&S in 2013. So, if there is more anniversary related stuff, it'll will have to be next year. Mr Awe
So as well as Atlantis for this Autumn/Winter the BBC now have a Three Musketeers series for the Saturday Evening slot next Spring. Looks like Series 8 is getting further and further away.
