That ship sure does look like it'd fit neatly into the Firefly universe. And now I'm dreaming of a crossover.

Exactly. It starts out with the promise of a great hard-scifi movie and then suddenly deteriorates into a third-rate carbon copy of a completely different science fiction movie (and with a worse resolve than the movie they lifted their second half from).

At least Event Horizon didn't even try to camouflage that it's just some mystery horror at its core (although with some stunning visuals).

I'm still a HUGE fan of "Sunshine", even though I understand why some people object to it. I think a lot of the resolution was telegraphed from the opening scene. (except the slasher elements) I don't mind films that surprise in the third act.

But we are probably going a bit off topic.

The alien dies of an overdose? Is that in the Director's Cut?

John Carter, The Dark Knight Rises and Prometheus. 2012 could be a great year in movies.

True, but it's still up in the air whether John Carter will be a mainstream success or just a gift to science fiction fans.

Trailer looks awesome, the movie has Fassbender, Theron and Pearce and is set in the Alienverse. Definitely a must see.

Then I get a clip telling me it's PG-13...sigh, for fuck's suck, why?! That means toned down violence and language. Why hamstring yourself that way? Making the movie less cool to let in more people early on is not going to help long term. Make it amazingly cool to start and let the 16 year olds go with an adult. I shouldn't have to wait for the DVD to see the "real" movie or Charlize do naked pushups.

It's PG-13 but Ridley and Tom Rothman will decide which version they will ultimately go with (PG-13 or R)

I hope they go with the R version as well, but two of my favorite horror movies of the last 10 years-- The Ring and Insidious-- were both PG-13. And they were scary and intense as hell.

So I'm not too worried about this movie going in that direction. And even if they do, the R version is almost certainly going to wind up on blu-ray anyway.

The movie wasn't cheap, and R-rated movies struggle, more often than not (if they end up going with that version).

You can just see the upcoming "Ridley Scott Directors cut of Prometheus"

-Special feature's include 10 minutes of Charlize theron doing naked push ups

Scott practically invented the directors cut.
