Tomorrow the ride starts in North America. KD, I don't know why I didn't mention it before, but Canada also has the IMAX/3D premiere. Canada and the U.S. are going the exact same route.

Even though my local theater is 3D, they're not showing it until the 16th. :(

I'm presuming you are in the U.S. or Canada? Only 3D IMAX theaters are showing it tomorrow. If you don't have an IMAX theater, you have to wait for the 16th.

Gotcha. The fact that they've been saying Imax/3D (with the slash) made me think it was an either/or scenario. Guess not. C'est la vie.

I think that depends on where you are. Both the Kingston Empire theatre, which has IMAX, and Cineplex Odeon, which has ULTRAAVX 3D, is showing the movie.

One more sleep 'til Star Trek! I get off work at 7:30, will head straight to the theater, buy my tickets, then go home and watch ST09 before heading to the midnight showing.

    Same here!
On first viewing I'd somehow missed that that Khan attacked the already-crippled Enterprise after takig the missiles and beaming Kirk, Scotty and Carol into Enterprise's brig. It was that attack that damaged the warp core and sent the ship falling to Earth. Last time, I thought Spock was somehow mad at Khan for what Admiral Marcus had done earlier and the writers had him yell "Khaaaaan!" and go into Hulk Smash Mode for no reason whatsoever. But it makes sense!

What I really got off on was..

the conversation between Kirk and Spock as Kirk was dying. Kirk tells him that using Khan's people against him was something he would have done, and we know that it IS something Prime Kirk did and this is what Prime Spock revealed to NuSpock in answer we never see. And then Kirk tells Spock that dying from radiation to save the ship is what Spock would have done in his place and of course we know how true that is. Even the first time I saw the movie I was a wowed by this two sides of the same coin presentation of Kirk and Spock but I let the Khaaaaan distract me from it. This time it felt right, the reaction of a man whose been hounded and driven and lost his friend at the end of a long hell that he didn't know if he would survive. And as we know he's already more on edge than Prime Spock will ever be because he's lost his planet.

Anyway I don't completely get how it happened but it went from face palm of the century to touching tribute to the perfectly balanced duo that is Kirk and Spock :adore:

Sometimes you have to see things more than once to fully grasp what's going on. Filmmakers rely on that to get you to come back to the theaters again. Devils! ;)

Yeah, I enjoyed it even more the second time. I think the movie moves at such a pace that a lot of it is hard to keep up with at times, I mean I needed to pee so ran out during the scene which I'd seen on YouTube (ears burning) and still missed Chekhov being chief engineering.

Tickets for Friday night in hand!!! I am so excited! Hubby had to humour me and join me in the dance of joy. Sadly, it probably looked a little like this:

Anyway, I can't wait to be able to discuss it with all of you late Friday or Saturday!

    Cheers!
