And if they want to recast the Master, can I just start the campaign for (aside from keeping Simm, which would be best) Aiden Gillen as a suitable opposite for Capaldi...
Simm was pretty bad in End of Time so I'd like a recast. Though really, the character has been so overused that I think I'd much prefer we got the Meddling Monk instead. The premise of a "Dark Doctor" has been overdone, as much as I love The Deadly Assassin and Survival.
I think John Simm was a great Master (except for the "hunger" moments). The problem was he got terrible scripts to work on (with the exception of most of "The Sound of Drums"). That being said, I'm all for Aiden Gillen as The Master.
I doubt Simm would come back for more than a regeneration anyway. I think Adrian Lester would make an awesome Master.
I'd have loved to have seen Simm with Smith, but unless they have him in the Xmas special which I doubt, that'll never happen. Maybe Simm and Capaldi together would work. Simm would comment how old he is and just insult him all the time. If they recast, maybe Philip Glenister could work as an opposite for Capaldi. I could just imagine them telling each other to fuck off all the time But seriously, Philip could work, Benedict Cumberbatch could work as the Master, although he'd have been more suitable for Smiths Doctor, and I think he'd be much better as Omega, um.....
I'm not sure whether you're kidding, but if we're not going to have a female Doctor, a female Master might be in order? Especially if body thievery were required.
That actually would be quite dramatic if The Master stole a body from a Companion. It was dramatic enough having met Tremus before The Master stole his body, imagine getting to know a Companion for a full Series or two, rather than just a single episode/serial. Jenna is fantastic as Clara, but, does she have the Acting range to be The Master?
Actually, yeah, I was just kidding, but then after I posted it, I thought, "yeah, why the hell not?" One of your most hated foes with the face of one of your companions? That could be cool. But, then, I think the nerds would throw a fit, "The Master is a MAN." Even though, on screen it's been stated that Time Lords can switch genders. "He can't just take on any face he wants!" Even though, on screen it's been SHOWN Romana choosing her next look. That's it, the campaign starts now: Jenna Coleman IS the Master. Don't know. But, I wager she does. She's certainly not the worst actor to travel with the Doctor. For a story or two, I'm willing to give it a go.
That would be fun for an episode. Maybe the Simm Master is dying and for some reason can't regenerate (maybe he wasn't given an entire set of new lives) and has stolen the body of Clara for an episode or two. Actually, I think that's one of the best ideas we've ever had on this forum.
I really like that idea, too. Doesn't necessarily have to be Clara but it's a great potential idea to be used any time down the road. To make it all the better, make it somehow The Doctor's fault The Master chose to take over his companion's body.
The Master? - Brad Dourif - Benedict Cumberbatch - Natalie Dormer - Christoph Waltz - Lara Pulver - Zoe Saldana
Cumberbatch as the Master would have worked best with Smith. If he's too different in physical age from the Doctor, it doesn't seem to work as well. Delgado and Pertwee, Ainley and Baker, Simm and Tennant. They're all sort of reflections of the other. If we get a Master to go up against Capaldi's Doctor, hmm... I dunno... Hugh Laurie is too similar. Stephen Fry is too... well, too Stephen Fry. Maybe someone like Michael Kitchen. Or Gary Oldman. Yeah.
