Two of the upcoming titles were retitled, too:

    The Star to every Wandering
Der Leitstern des Verirrten - The Lodestar of the Lost

    Rising Son
So der Sohn - Like Son (as in "Like father, like son" I suppose)

Actually that sounds to me like an attempt at a literal translation that misunderstood the intent -- interpreting "singular" to mean simply "separate, individual" rather than the intended sense of "extraordinary, remarkable."

Now, that's a good example of translating the underlying sense of the title effectively.

I don't consider that an entirely new title, since it appears to originate in a more recent translation of Shakespeare's sonnet 116.

    Right, I missed that one.

Ah, I haven't read the book since the original release, and not being a Shakespeare buff, I forgot it was a quote from a Shakespeare sonnet. :alienblush:

Agreed. Not only does the title lose some of its meaning, it is almost distorted.

^Well, the (most fitting) literal translation of Precipice would have been (Der) Abgrund, but since that's already the title of the DS9 novel Abyss I guess they went for Vor dem Fall.

ETA: That was in reply to a part of SPCTRE's post he seems to have edited out after I started my reply.

Neither am I, as it happens. :D I like watching the plays, but as for reading his poetry, that's a little too far outside my current comfort zone.

Yeah sorry about that, I realized too late that that part of my post was a complete and utter brainfart

CC has released a (first?) cover draft for "Das höchste Maß an Hingabe", the German translation of Enterprise: Last Full Measure.

    You can find it here.

That's a much cooler cover, but it doesn't make the book not suck, does it?

The Japanese get some really good covers too for their Star Wars novels.

Yeah, I like it too, but oddly enough it gets mostly negative comments on the Facebook post.

Too esoteric, too fantasy-like, too cheesy, etc...

I like both covers. That's the first good NF cover than the others.
