(other than plot contrivance). Or is it just the 'bad boy' syndrome? Looking back, it's not a very edifying list: the 'Mr Rochester' holonovel guy Labin Kashyk Jaffen Sullivan All creeps in my book. Apologies if missed anyone. With that list, not surprised fanfics/shippers looked elsewhere. Couldn't they have given her one decent relationship, even if it was an 'indian summer'? Kirk, Picard and Archer all got one (Paradise Syndrome/Inner Light/Twilight).
Jaffen was awesome. And adorable. And the answer would be that Kate didn't think it would be appropriate.
^ For her to date a subordinate, yes. She could have willingly had a "random dalliance" with an alien commander or politician or random dude that she ended up really liking. There were ways to keep a lover around without him being a subordinate to her on her own ship. Another ship traveling alongside, perhaps? And seconded on Jaffen. I like that guy. He was kinda like Mark. Note also that Janeway was still pining for Mark quite a bit early on. Oh! And you forgot Gath on that list - the gross dude from "Prime Factors." *shiver* Now that was a creeper. And Kashyk was a sexy creeper. EDIT: I should mention that there's something to be said for a woman who doesn't necessarily "need" someone else to be happy, though. Maybe the independence was important. And there is something rather poignant about the loneliness of the character. That said - it would have been nice to see her get with someone willingly. No mind control, no playing dangerous games.
I couldn't possibly comment But even if Jaffen himself wasn't dodgy, he was a member of dodgy race... That's what I was trying to get to. No manipulation...hidden agendas...mind control. Even if it was just a 'dream' moment. Guess 11:59 was closest but that wasn't Janeway
I liked Sullivan. And as to why she had bad taste in men (which I don't think was the case but..) clearly it's because she was meant for 7.
Hey, if it's well written, why not. Not my cup of tea, but alas. I liked Sullivan too teacake. So there.
My vote goes to Jaffen. If I can't have J/C, then J/J would have been acceptable. Plus, I loved the actor when he played Murphy on season 1's Remington Steele! [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtQsqmOsf5w[/yt]
I liked Jaffen, and Sullivan...just glad she left Chuckles alone, that would have been creepy. Also that creepy french guy from Prime Factors made my skin crawl eewwww
Jaffen-- is that the guy from "Workforce"? Was he alright as a lover? I can't quite remember now (and I only watched it yesterday), but he seemed OK.
How about Q? Isn't he an all around nice guy. She almost accepted his proposal in 'Q and the Grey'. Amost, seems to be, is about the same as getting there with him. Wasn't much anyway if pro-creation was only the touching of the index finger. I liked Q. He could make his wants and needs so obvious to Katherine. She missed so much fun by leaving him. They could have toured the Meditteranian or rented a cottage on Easter Island- for months and months.
Is everyone here forgetting Jaffen turned Chak in - out of jealousy? Not cool. Although I guess 'Workforce' was the nearest KJ got to an 'Inner Light/Twilight' episode... Didn't put Q on list because he's not a creep (well, maybe an omnipotent one, but you get the point...)
Well, at least Janeway got a better taste in men than poor Deanna Troi. Slimebags like Devinion Ral and Ambassador Alkar makes Janeway's dates look rather normal in comparision.
^ OMG. RAL. I absolutely cannot watch that guy without foaming at the mouth. That sack of crap made Gath look like a saint. Point well made. LOL
Might be the Bitter young man in me, but I think that highly realistic in that I learned long ago not to think why women pick the men they do.
