I believe I found a Star Trek reference in The Broken Empire trilogy that I'm currently reading. For those not familiar with the series, it's a dark fantasy series that you eventually find out is taking place roughly 1,000 years in the future in a post-apocalyptic Europe. The series is by Mark Lawrence. Anyway, in the second book, King of Thorns, the main character is thinking of a situation from his childhood and thinking that his whole world is a game. He then makes reference to some ancient book; he's always making reference to some ancient book of knowledge or other. He says "When a game cannot be won, change the game. I read that in the book of Kirk." Who else could that be? I like finding little Trek related Easter Eggs like that. - Byron UPDATE: I just received a confirmation email from Mr. Lawrence that this was definitely a Kobayashi Maru reference.
Yeah, the first thing that came to mind from the quote was his Kobayashi Maru test. Good to know that Star Trek can survive the collapse of civilization!
