To be honest, I don't have the warmfuzzies that many people have over reboot trek. It certainly is imaginative and "exciting", but I'm happy if it stays onscreen and leaves treklit for the most part alone, allowing trek prime to dominate the novelverse.

However, if it came down to a choice, I'd be more than happy to say to the reboot, "burn, baby, burn!"

Except of course, "Prime Universe" the term Abrams and his minions gave to the original universe themselves. After all, it was in the credits of Trek XI where Nimoy was listed as playing "Spock Prime."

Yes, and it's such a nice, efficient, convenient term for it, which is why I regret that they didn't coin a suitable equivalent term for their own new continuity.

This conversation reminds me, to a slight extent, of Anya on Buffy the Vampire Slayer talking about a reality made entirely of shrimp, one with absolutely no shrimp, and so on.

Hah, I'd completely forgotten about Illyria's mention of the World Without Shrimp. It's a bit of a recurring thought in the Buffyverse.

I really like Prime Trek as a name for everything pre-ST09. NuTrek has the advantage of not being tied to any person or production company. For as long as the movies continue to be set in the timeline created by Abrams, one label should suffice...

If we ever get a new TV series set in the TOS era, it will most probably be with new actors, since I doubt they can afford to pay the fees demanded by Pine etc. That could be STR (R for reboot), obscure novels notwithstanding. However, that prospect is looking increasingly unlikely, so for my money NuTrek will have to do for now.

This is why I think maybe a CGI animated series would be the go. Even if some the cast don't turn up to the table, it would be much easier to hide the change of voice actor than it would be to recast a similar 'actor type' in live-action. I'd like to hope the nuTrek cast would be willing to do voice work for an animated series though. One thing I felt actually worked about the recent Xbox/PS3/PC game was that the voice acting was very strong from all concerned, and it made me realize just how good this cast could be in an animated Star Trek series. :techman:

It worked for Stargate SG-1. These movies have proven that Kirk, Spock and the rest can be successfully recast.

There is so much Great Trek from the past that if this actually happened to Trek I would be utterly enthralled whether it was wonderful or a freaking train wreck

    ST > 09

    or

    09 > ST < [1]

    [1]
    Insert ending year digits here...

    --

Thus the Classic/Prime continuity would be referred to as

    66 > ST < 05
