I don't call Shatner anything. Why should I? I never met the man. I don't care for him. But James Doohan met him an awful lot at one time and had formed an opinion. Now please go and ask Grace Lee Whitney face to face if James Doohan ever raped her. I think she would advise you to seek help.

    So much for credibility.

I doubt he hated Shatner. That's a pretty strong word.

However, considering both actors appeared in classic Twilight Zone episodes, at least Doohan didn't totally embarrass himself!

You know, editing your posts after someone else has already quoted you in a response isn't all the effective.

I think Doohan hated Shatner, to let's face it Shatner was an arrogant ass, and has the biggest ego, IMHO. That's why.

George Takei made a comment about Shatners personality on the David Letterman show recently. He said that after all these years Shatner still pronounces his name wrong. Even though he has corrected him many, many times, Shatner just won't get it right. It's that attitude that Doohan didn't like. He was once quoted as saying "I like Captain Kirk, but I can't say that I'm very fond of Bill". Doohan would not even reprise his role as Scotty in the Futurama spoof "Where No Fan Has Gone Before". His response was "No way!". The producers believed it was because he thought he would have to work with Shatner again.

As for Doohans personality Wikipedia has this to say; "Doohan was considered by some to be one of the most giving and affable stars of the Star Trek franchise".

You know, Kim, it really isn't that unusual for one coworker to despise another.

It happens. Humans, even the best ones, are petty, vindictive, duplicitous creatures.

For a long time I thought it was just Doohan trying to sell books--usually when it came up was when he was on a talk show or what not.

But, after I while I really started to think he really didn't like The Shat.

Shatner can do what ever the hell he wants and its A-OK with me.Captain Kirk will always be my numero uno.Scotty could have been played by anyone and Star Trek still would have been the same show, i cant same the same about the Captain, IMO.

Hmmmm...a really good person would forgive and forget. Perhaps Doohan did all those things for the attention and adulation. A real class act would never speak ill of anyone, even someone they disliked.

Yeah, it might've actually been someone who acted and delivered dialog normally....

Well he certainly liked them enough. Some friends and I were at a con drinking tequila. The hotel was one with a big hollow core, and half of the floor was set aside for the con guests. The other half was open to the public. We had set up at a table on the hall/balcony and were enjoying ourselves when the door across the atrium opened up and out came James Doohan. He had a blond on one arm and a brunette on the other. he escorted them to the elevator and took a jaunty walk back to his room, pausing to give us a big wave. He seemed a perfect gentleman to me.

I don't believe he turned down the Futurama part. He suffered from Parkinson's disease which made him speak slower so it would be difficult to do the voice.

On the Futurama DVD commentary for that episode they said he was cutting back his work load or something like that. They never said anything about health reasons, but it stands to reason.

It's really kind of sad to think of characters that you love so much not getting along in real life. Course, I'm always stuck with the vision of seeing Shatner helping an ill Doohan off stage during the nickelodeon tv show awards. That was really a sign to me that bygones were bygones.
