    Funny video on one level, but there's a serious point here too. Level crossings are one of the most frustrating encounters drivers/pedestrians face and I'm not surprised so many jump them, idiotic as it is.

    The biggest problem is the lengthy lag time between the crossing coming down and the train going past. It's often several minutes or more. So traffic is just sitting there, getting increasing annoyed and eventually someone "cracks" and makes a dash for it.

    They should reduce the lag time to about 30s between the crossing coming down and the train going past, so people wouldn't get so frustrated at the lengthy delay and begin to treat level crossings with proper respect.

    Paradoxically, the effort to increase safety by increasing the time delay between the crossing coming down and the train going by, makes the accident rate higher I suspect.
