I didnt like the look of doug drexler's refit. she looked awkward....

    changes made:

    slid the saucer forward
made the nacelle strut follow one tangent.
severed both pontoons/outriggers/catamarans along the line of the impulse engines
extended the neck to meet the saucer
re-located the shuttlepod bay below engineering
    built up the engineering section

That's pretty impressive... what is that you're building it out of?

It looks like you're going to have alot of sanding to do. :)

Good god, yer' building an actual physical model? I thought that was nearly a lost art...

Okay this looks much better than the NX 01 itself ...getting rid of the structureally weak booms off the saucer along is a great improvement

This is also much better than their refit if you bet ride of that pod hanging between the nacelles.

This doesn't feel like a refit, but a whole new class, you know?

Personally, if we're working from the NX and going forward in the timeline, I'd keep the pod, BUT it wouldn't house reactors or an extra deflector or anything wacky like that. It'd mostly be a supply/utility pod to allow the NX-class to take on a wider range of missions for longer periods of time. Basically, instead of tearing the entire ship apart and rebuilding it from the keel up, it'd be a quick retrofit, so that Earth Starfleet doesn't have to take their biggest, baddest, most advanced ships out of service for goodness knows how long.

And it would kind of link up with the design of the Kelvin.

    *Dodges tomatoes*

Anyways, it's a pretty awesome model, but from an aesthetic standpoint, I'm not sure about the design. Something about the shape of the NX's saucer... IDK if it really works with a secondary hull. Maybe the secondary hull is proportionally smaller than the Connie we know and love... the nacelle booms longer or the nacelles themselves skinnier and longer. And of course, the NX saucer has always been visually more top-heavy than the ol' Connie. It just seems primed to tip forward at any moment, according to my reptile brain. Of course, it's space and I know things don't tip over, but I just wanted to point that out.

Sorry about the blocks of text... I don't want to seem like "that guy".

Not for me, for me - this is 3D!

I would, but the pod is necessary according to trek lore.
    at least for this timeframe.

I saw this as being the very last refit at the end of the NX line, kind of a "lets use what we've learned over the last 15 years" The ship is the Dauntless, so she is NX-08; a lot has been learned since Enterprise was built. Starfleet would have learned over time how ineffective the original refit would have been, i.e. shuttlepod crashes, structural integrity issues etc.

look at warships today, they dont keep cranking out the same ship year after year; ship classes evolve.

I see this being the extreme range of stretching the NX class before moving on to a new design.

i think it looks a bit flimsy without the 2 bits from saucer to nacelle wing-things( i forget the right name).

It's a nice looking idea. It might even make sense to eliminate the catamarans (?) to make a possible saucer separation possible/easier.

Lovin' your design for the refit, as well as your progress on the physical one.
However, I was wondering, would you be willing to do a custom shop model on commission?

Never mind I thought the pod was still suspended between the Pylons....thankfully you didn't follow drexlers design that far... but I will say this...you could affoard to make the secondary hull winder at the front to match the ships over all fatness.

I would even say that for the sake of symmetry that the front of the secondary hull should be the same shape as the saucer is from above. The NX's only circular design comes from the Nacelles and it give the ship a bit of a bug eye appearance because of the fat look of the saucer...so the only real suggestion I have is...fat saucer, fat secondary hull.

I'm not at all fond of the refit as seen in the calendar. It's kind of a fish/bird.

That's how evolution works. When you move from one species to another, there's going to be a hybrid or two in the mix.

    Archeopteryx, anyone?
