Can't be any worse than the 2004 movie...

Jonathan Frakes tried... his children loved the series, that's what persuaded him to take it on.

Excellent. Using live action models is the way to go.

God! Just leave Thunderbirds alone. it doesn't matter how good it will look, they wont get it right!
Thunderbirds was a product of its time and that magic can NEVER be repeated.

Well rumours of Thunderbirds coming back as a TV series have been around for years. As for whether or not they can recapture the magic of original show. It is possible just, step one ignore everything the live-action film did.

You want it to be similiar in tone to the original show.

Well, I'll watch it once, and continue watching if I like it. I loved the original.

There are many, many more ways this can go wrong than right, though. We've seen some of the ways it can go wrong already....

WETA isn't Jackson's. They just cooperate with him a lot.

Another thing that annoys me about Peter Jackson is that he waffles on about owning an original miniature from Thunderbirds.
He DOESN'T! It was a replica built in the 1990's by Martin Bower to promote the Thunderbirds comic.
Peter please STOP saying you own a Derek Meddings miniature. :wtf:

It's just a shame that it looks like it might be only 30 min long episodes. But what might work in favour of it working is that it's the original TV channel behind it.

Jackson is one of the founders of WETA and still a co-owner, is he not?

arthur2sheds is right! Like Star Trek, Thunderbirds is a product of its time and just isn't as good when you remove the sexism and racism. [IMG]

Thunderbirds was originally 30 minutes long too, but was doubled after a producer saw the pilot and was blown away by the quality. Unfortunately a handful of episodes had already been completed, so they had to go back and have additional material added to them (such as the subplot of the Meddings aerial attempt to defuse the bomb on the Fireflash in the pilot).
