If you have to ask, dont even worry about it. That reference will only make sense to someone from say Kentucky who lives for a year in san francisco
Ok Mate, this is semantics. When i say "asian" the average response is to think "oriental" not indian.. conversely if i were to say "That indian kid" you'd think Sikhs/Desi /"owns all the gas stations and 2 star hotels in the midwest" .. when i say arabs" .. you think "crude oil" and camels My point is not to make a big deal out of the splitting of hairs. I suppose I am the idiot for thinking i can safely make such an offhand inference without getting a shite storm send down upon me in this day and age..
I TOTALLY AGREE. Tuvok just wanted to see stuff burn. You can say he was an idiot to throw Kes's kero soaked brain onto that little candle but he got what he wanted in the end didn't he?
There's a continent called Asia where India, Pakistan, Sir Lanka, Bangladesh and 43 other countries are sitting squarely on it. It's called Science. But yes, I too was very confused when I first noticed brown people answering to to the word "Asian" in popular media and current affairs, but then I learnt to roll with it. Here's a trick that might save you from a beating someday... "New words" are more often less racist than "old words". If you keep learning new words, the worst they can call you is a neoracist.
The people living on it, and their descendants who walked the Earth have the option for feeling a little communion. Asia is also a shitty band.
You mean "implication." "Inference" is what the rest of us draw from your implication. I thought we did this already? Maybe I'm nitpicking, but I've always called it "Geography." Compared to ... what? Your million selling band with members from other million selling bands?
What is with the Asian thing??? Did the OP write something disparaging about Asian culture in another thread or something?!? In terms of Tuvok, he most certainly is not an idiot and is one of my favorite Vulcan characters. Vulcans are my favorite Trek species to watch period and I think Tuvok was definitely "Vulcan" enough. This thread title is pretty offensive too. Idiot is a strong word.
Since Kes' supernatural powers all involve direct manipulation of molecules, I don't think anything else he could have chosen would be less risky than fire.
So.. This is suposed to be about Star Trek.. and Tuvok.. Right? Lets just say racism is not ok, everyone agrees and be done with that. Now we are free to argue about Tuvok. I LOVE TUVOK, but he is no Spock. Still, he aint no fool.
I love that Tuvok is a healthy Vulcan, not struggling in his own culture like Spock and T'Pol were. He's figured out how to live with humans too so he's not trying to be as uber Vulcan as possible around them. He's pretty much the most relaxed Vulcan we get to know.
In his OP he compared Tuvok's idiocy to all Asians pretty much, though he had the good grace to edit that out.
Ok....I don't think I want to know what was written...but glad it was edited out. Sheesh. Nearly all of my friends are Korean so ill slap anyone who is hating on Asians! Also its just a matter of fact that Tuvok is no dumbass. Ok...he let Kes play with fire once but it wasn't his fault that she turned into some kind of telepathic superman. He didn't know she was getting THAT strong to the point where she was tearing up the ship.
I actually liked Tuvok, though I think Spock better exemplified "Vulcan Logic". Tuvok always struck me as too arrogant. I wish he wasn't though, because needing to feel superior to others carries with it an emotional element. Hardly logical. I'm guessing some disparaging comment about asians was edited out of the original post. That's probably for the best. All-in-all though, Tuvok was an awesome character, IMO.
