True. But on the other hand, his wooden, dismissive demeanor underscored a Jedi Order that was too reliant on dogma ("The Code forbids it!") and needed to be revitalized. So while his performance isn't what we would want to see from someone as capable as Jackson, it does convey a character you want to see knocked down a peg or two (or, rather, have his hand chopped off before being thrown out a window).

I've always thought that Lucas had really good ideas, he just wasn't very good at actually bringing those ideas onto screen himself. I think it says a lot that the best movie in the series, The Empire Strikes Back, is one of only two he didn't write and direct himself. I also like Return of Jedi better than A New Hope myself, but I think I'm in the minority there. Not to mention that The Clone Wars is better than most of the movies.

Except that TESB isn't really better than ANH. :p

Yeah ESB might be a lot deeper and richer, but to me the ideal version of SW will always be the lighter and more cornball version we saw in ANH.

Episode VII's lead villain has been cast.

No real details and thus no spoiler material, but I have to say this is an interesting casting decision if this story is indeed true.

    Should have been Fassbender.

This guy is such a douche in Girls, so either he's a great actor - because he really comes off as a douche in that show - or is just a douche.

I saw the picture first and thought it was Justin Long. An awkwardly placed "Nooooo!!!" followed.

Ideally, Justin Long shouldn't even do the voice of the Trix Rabbit but at least he's not involved in this film. I haven't seen as much of Driver as you guys seem to have so I'll withhold any strong opinion one way or the other until I take a look at some of his other screenwork.

Personally, just based on what I do know, I'd have cast Weaving.

Intersting Age range there. This guy (Don't know him at all), Fassbender and Weaving. Once we know who it is (If existing character) or see the movie, it'll be interesting to look back on this range (unless it's just a vocal part)

I suppose I could see him as some hardass Imperial officer type, but the main villain in the style of Vader? Not quite.

But I look forward to seeing what they have in mind for him.

Well, knowing how JJ Abrams feels about spoilers, the "Darth Vader" comment could be very deceiving. For all we know, that just means he's going to be wearing a helmet.

Lol, this dude as Star Wars villain, and that Eisenberg guy as Lex Luthor. Is this the age of milksop villains?

Danger! He's twirling his milk moustache!

It's a proven fact that Vitamin D, calcium and iron are better for your body than midichlorians.

He seems like a pretty good actor, even though the show is awful.

I don't think I've ever seen him on-screen, so I have no impression either way. But if the rumors are true - that it was between him and, say, Weaving, that's very curious indeed. Why would they want someone with a more youthful physicality on-screen, rather than gravitas? They clearly had a reason for it ... I'll be curious to find out what it is ...

He's an amazing actor. He can be vulnerable and intimidating within the space of a heartbeat and be totally convincing. A great choice.

There might be something to be said about unpredictability, rather than an actor who is best known for his villain roles.
